There is no discrepancy here. The hamburgers in Disneyland (Tomorrowland Terrace, Hungry Bear, etc.) are *A*W*F*U*L*. The hamburgers at Taste Pilot's Grill--which is in Disney's California Adventure--are acceptable. And, I must agree that the condiment bar is highly desirable.

3rd Avenue in Bay Ridge, my friend. You can't go wrong, but some of them (Sophia's, for instance) is to die for.

<Note, gentle reader, how no one has come to the defense of the park's hamburgers. Hamburgers in Disneyland are abysmal, by any standard. They simply stink.>

It's true, and it has always been thus. I think they're actually slightly better than the 60's/70's burgers I remember from the TL Terrace or the Hungry Bear - they tasted like cardboard.

What's strange is that they've shown at Taste Pilots that they CAN do a decent burger. Whatever they're doing there (and it's not just the condiment bar, it's the burgers themselves), they should try to replicate at DL, at least at ONE of the burger places, so that option would be there.

I forget: are the burgers at Taste Pilots more expensive than, say, at TL Terrace?

Some of you may remember for a short time that on Main Street USA was an omlette restaurant in the early 1990's. If my memory is correct, that was eventually switched out for burgers or burgers were served after the breakfast concluded.

No matter, the point is that they were amazing burgers. Thick and real juicy pattys of high quality beef, grilled and served on plates, not in paper baskets.

Another side note is that when Country Bear Restaurant first opened, they ground and pattied their own beef within that facility. However, there were some sanitation issues and they went to frozen patties and the quality has sucked ever since.

I still am wanting to know if anyone has tried the "made over menu" at Cafe Orleans yet? It is my understanding that the menu and dining experience have greatly improved.

"Inquiring taste buds wish to know."

    Well, not always.

In the 70s and early 80s, the prices of food at Disneyland were really very reasonable.

I remember as a kid my mom commenting on the fact that the food was 'such a good value.'

I would say that once Eisner and Wells arrived in 1984, food and bev in the parks started to rise -- along with ticket prices.

Oy. I must have just horrible luck, because in 3 attempts, each burger has been worse than the one before. Hockey puck city.

So noted, gentle monorail blue. :) I've only had one from the Village Haus, and that was enough to make me afraid to try one anywhere else...

That's very correct. Until the mid 80's, that was also the case for drinks, snacks, and even souvenirs. DL prices for food and merch was BELOW that of other theme parks and other "captive venues" (like sports stadiums).

And the customer couldn't help but notice. (I remember my parents commenting on this too, and when I started paying my own way I did also). The idea was that "good will" was priceless and would keep people coming back. Of course, since the 80's DL prices are more in line with other captive venues, and the people come back anyway, so I don't think that'll change. But it was an awfully nice feature of the early park.

Absolutely true. Also, Disneyland's food had unique tastes back then which created their own kinds of memories. From the wonderful mexican flavors at Casa de Fritos, Carnation on Main St., Plaza Pavillion, etc., each facility offered such wonderful and unique tastes that just said; Disneyland.

The three-cheese Monte Cristo is delicious, although very rich and filling. Definitely a dish to share. Their salad with raspberry vinaigrette dressing and pecans (can't remember the name) is wonderful, as is the French onion soup. Hmm, what else? Oooo, I also had the seafood crepes, which were delicious.

One thing I found very humorous about the kid's menu there is that they have a PB & J Monte Cristo, and what it actually is is a Smucker's Uncrustable, battered and deep fried. (My youngest, not being a very adventurous eater, opted to have his Uncrustable plain--lol!)

Anyway, my experiences there have been terrific as far as all the food I've tried, and service was very good two out of three times and okay the third time. Definitely make a PS, and even then, don't expect to have a meal there in a hurry. Even when the service is good, you'll be there awhile. Not that that's a bad thing, just warning the first timers not to eat there if they're in a rush to get through the meal and do something immediately afterward.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm, Three-Cheese Monte Cristo, what will my cardiologist think? Well, he'll just tell me to take three laps around the park.

Thanks so much for the wonderful description. That is awesome!
