And Disneyland at 35 w/kids isn't nearly as magical as WDW when your 7. First impressions are hard to get past.

He didn't even have much input on it, or seem to concerned about it before his death. Walt died five years before the Magic Kingdom opened. On October 27th 1966, just two weeks before he passed away, Walt made a film about his "Florida Project" and to sell the Epcot concept to American industry. He showed a large map of the Florida property, and specifically pointed out the Magic Kingdom park slotted for the top of the map. The basic outlines of Bay Lake and some smaller lakes were there, but much of the surrounding infrastructure, roads and hotels were radically different in '66 than what actually got built five years later. The Magic Kingdom itself was very detailed on the map. And it was an exact duplicate of Disneyland, circa 1966. It had Small World's newly built show building, but no Haunted Mansion in New Orleans Square. You can see StorybookLand, Casey Jr. Circus Train, Matterhorn, Submarine Voyage, and all of the other exact buildings that comprised Disneyland in 1966. The new structures of Tomorrowland '67, or any facility built at Disneyland after 1967, were not shown on the map. When Walt died in 1966 the Magic Kingdom park in Florida was an exact duplicate of Disneyland, just thrown in there as a placekeeper. What Walt was most excited about was EPCOT and the attached business parks and model home communities all connected by PeopleMover and Monorail. None of that was built of course, but that's what Walt saw in '66. The Magic Kingdom Park in Florida had no design input by Walt Disney. In his last few weeks and months he was most concerned about getting his EPCOT concept down on paper and out for input from American industry. To say that Walt Disney designed anything in the Magic Kingdom, or thought of doing anything differently than Disneyland, is false. The Epcot '66 film is available on the Walt Disney Treasures: Tomorrowland DVD that came out a few years ago, and it's still available for purchase on Amazon. With a DVD you can freeze the frame, zoom in, and see Walt's cut and paste job from Disneyland for his Florida map very clearly.

It's more like comparing Vanilla Ice Cream to Belgian Chocolate. Both are good, but some may prefer one to the other. The reality is I think most people prefer the one they grew up with. Natural really.

No one should feel that they have to apologize for cherished family memories! <<Is anyone around here happy that we have two resorts in this country?>> I am kennect. I am a huge DLR fan, but this year we're going to WDW and I'm still just as excited to go there and experience the FL resort.

Everyone's opinion on that is different, and memories really do matter in how we percieve the parks. I have to say that I really like Disneyland's Downtown Disney much better than WDW's, but that's only an opinion.

If only California had AKL & DAK, as well as Epcot, I would never have to go to Florida again.

I am not even sure a water park would work in Anaheim, because much of the year it is just too cold. Water parks in Orlando are open almost all year. I do prefer DL over MK, DCA over MGM, and Downtown Disney at the DLR. Also, a love the fact that everything is within walking distance. On the other hand, DLR doesnt have anything to compare to AK or EPCOT.

I only really enjoy it during that now endangered species, the off season, and even then only on weekdays. IMHO, weekends at DL any time of the year are too busy to be enjoyable.
