If you don't show up well before opening time, and then move quickly to see some major stuff and collect those fastpasses early, you miss out on a lot. I find though that after 11am or so, with a couple of fastpasses in hand for later, my pace chills out quite a bit. I also save Fantasyland for the last hour of park operation if I'm so inclined to check out dark rides...during the day it's just ridiculous and a waste of time. << Is it a cultural thing X the way the Japanese do Disney?

First time we went, 1979, we rented a car, hit Sea World, Gatorland Zoo, and Stars Hall of Wax. They were also great places, but there was only the MK then. 2 years later we also went to Busch Garden, great time. The thing is, so many of you go to WDW more often than I go to the mall 10 minutes from my house, it's a regular thing for you. So I can understand why you think it's stale. But I go every 2-3 years, I'm on vacation, I don't want to run all over the state. 10-15 minute bus ride, no problem, but a 1-2 hour bus ride, nope.

I think rather than cultural, in TDL's case it's simply a practical reality in a packed park where practically all the patrons show up at opening time and every one of them has been there a million times before, knows exactly what the most popular stuff is, and where to go to get a fastpass for it. All at once.

In the case of Pooh, I've seen the fastpass line snake out of Fantasyland, through Tomorrowland, over the Tomorrowland bridge, past the castle and all the way across the hub, and over the Westernland bridge into Westernland. That's right, the fastpass line BEGAN just about halfway across the entire park! It's quite a sight.
