I bet I'll end up on some list somewhere of bad customers. Like a card counter in Vegas.

    Exactly.

I've always appreciated free offers of birthday perks, even when I couldn't take advantage of them. And even when it might mean that -- GASP! -- the offerer might make money as a result of me taking advantage of the offer.

I think the problem here is that Disney fanatics heard "announcement" and automatically went into their "I won't settle for anything less than two new parades, the return of Figment as I loved him, and a total make-over of Tomorrowland. Plus a 40% merchandise discount for all AP holders" mode.

C'mon. The birthday admission thing is cool. And it's VERY cool that they've created alternate bonuses for those who already have admission.

I wonder if we will be getting that over here at WDW. It would make it alot easier for FL residents to get AP's if they did this. Universal and the Busch parks offer this. Mine and my wifes Universal and SW/BGT passes are paid for this way. We haven't been able to renew her WDW pass cause we simply don't have the $360 to drop right now on a pass but we could do it if it was spread out over 12 months. I guess we will see.

Well ... of course .... a free day on your birthday at a Disney park is great and all ...... but the way this has been hyped up .. It was kinda sounding like Disney's 5th Gate was about to be announced! LOL

But a media event to announce a new promotion seems a little over the top and self important.

Disney isn't going to lose a dime on this. How many single visitors go on their birthday? Nope, you'll go with a group, and they'll all pay, and then everyone will eat, buy souvenirs, etc.

Why does it have to be one or the other? I like the birthday thing, and I still look for more new attractions. It's a friggin promotion, and it's going to work beautifully and make the company lots of money.

It wasn't a media event per se. These events are held in NYC to target the travel agencies and other groups that are responsible for booking Disney vacations for guests. Disney need to make sure that travel bookers are fully aware of how this promotion works and how they can up-sell elements for groups visiting the parks for a celebration.

If it was a media event they would have just held them simultaneously at DLR and WDW like they did for the 50th kick-off.

I beg to disagree with this one - we are both APs, and with the alternate gifts, we are either looking at $150 for merchandise, or getting a couple of passes to use for guests. Both circumstances mean Disney is out some money.

As for those born on February 29th, you will have the option of visiting February 28th or March 1st.
