The swimming with the dolphins is the "weenie" that gets people to go to Discovery Cove. Night Kingdom would have to have something unique that would make people want to pay the money. So far the plans Jim Hill has mentioned are not anything that exciting.

Isn't that so true with all Disney offerings that don't receive the proper attention?

    Sad situation.

I'm disappointed, I haven't been there in a long time but I thought it was fun when I was there (and if it were the same stale stuff, which is how it sounds, I'd be pretty "over it" too).

Wow, dumb waitress! Hope you didn't leave any allowance! :p

They're supposed to add to the fun, not annoy customers! It'd be one thing to kiddingly grouse about "extra dishes to do", but to not bring you what you want!? (promptly?) Duh.

Reminds me of Tokyo Disneyland when they started giving away Halloween candy.

The CM's were instructed to tell the guests to say "trick or treat" (in ENGLISH), and followed that to the letter.

Lots of crying kids that year, when the CM's refused them candy because they couldn't say it properly. lol.

I heard all about it since my girlfriend at the time worked in the call center (1-800-disneycomplaints).

Funny thing was, they weren't purposefully doing "bad show", in fact they really thought they were doing their jobs properly (if you heard something similar in the American parks you might guess the CM's were having some fun with the customers, but in Japan it really was a cultural barrier clash...since it was the AMERICAN management that suggested having the kids say trick or treat without really thinking about how much trouble the Japanese kids (and adults) might have with the phrase AND how literally the cast members might interpret the "rules".

Keep in mind too that Halloween ORIGINATED in Tokyo Disneyland (for the whole COUNTRY) and nobody had ever heard of "trick or treat" or what the heck it even meant.

Anyway, it's one of my more amusing Tokyo stories that's for sure.

    LOL!!!!!!

    I think that's HILARIOUS!

Firstly because I think kids SHOULD be deprived at times. Secondly because of the regimented and TOO thorough manner the CMs did their job. LOL!!!!!!!

You just won't have to worry about me dropping over a $1000 for my family to go to "Night Kingdom" OR "Discovery Cove". With that money, I can get a 7 day passport to the other parks including the water parks for my family. Of course, if my PowerBall numbers come up, well, then, I MIGHT try it. But until that 'ship' rolls in, I'll have to keep tightening our vacation spending belt for each trip back. We may not even be able to afford a WDW vacation someday if the prices keep going up the way they are.

There are so many families that can't afford to go every year and only go once every 10 years or so; this is really going to appeal to them, because when you hardly go to disney, you want to make it as special as possible and this new park gives you the oppourtunity. There are still millions of thing for the frequen visitor and the annual pass holder to do, and new attractions are being announced all the time. I think this is a great idea and I back it 100%. I am an annual passholder and I can't wait to go. The thing is, a lot of the annual passholders and frequent visitors think disney should cater exclusively to them because they go to disney the most, but visiting a lot doesn't mean you are spending the most money because you know all the deals and the values, and the tricks. At the end of the day, disney is a business, a big business, but still a business. Their job is to find new and exciting ways to make money and hopefully keep everyone entertained at the same time. As Jim hill put it, all the on-line people should support DNK, so it will do well and then disney can use the profit towards projects everyone will be happy with!

    Disney's Night Kingdom-10/1/11 yay!

ps. you can see the land already cleared out to the west of the magic kingdom.

Well, if it ends up being as popular as it could be, how do you explain to Junior that you couldn't get to do the zipline over the aligators because they ran out of space, and the next extra special trip he is able to take will be when he has his own family? If it's what I'm picturing, this will not be a problem since I don't see many people wanting to pay that much for it, but if it is what you are saying, it will leave a lot of unhappy families left out.

As far as being hard to get into, since it is so exclusive and they are proposing to have 4000 CM's so the ratio will be 2:1, you have to treat it like a tough disney restaurant and make your reservations early. I know all the parents make their cinderella breakfast reservations 180 days in advance.

TSM is the only announced attraction that hasn't opened, right? There's nothing else under construction, is there?

    (And I don't count Disney's American Idol...)

As another poster said, there are innumerable activities to do at WDW and most within the budget of a family who visit say once every year or two. Personally I have ZERO sympathy for the indulged, whingeing APers who(childlike in their own way)complain because they cannot join the Van Der Bilt's three evenings per week at DNK after they had dropped in for a coffee on Main Street on their way home from work.

For the vast majority of people a holiday at WDW is a SPECIAL EVENT. For a privilleged few it is some kind of mall hangout. They will just have to deal.

That just doesn't make sense. How are they going to come up with 4000 more CMs? They're already scraping the bottom of the Central Florida bucket when it comes to staffing what they already have.

Are they going to cross-train DAK CMs for NK?

I'd hate to see what would happen if Disney had to find 4000 more employees...or more correctly, I'd hate to think about whom they would hire.
