You can "fix" the flaw by looking at the average rating right under the Tomatometer.

Zootopia has an 81 as of this writing.

Unless things have changed - and I just checked and it looks like they haven't - RT only assigns "positive" or "negative" to each review. The Tomatometer score is a simple percentage of positives to negatives. Thus a movie that everyone is positively raving abut could (and does) get the same score as one that has only lukewarm "it's OK I guess" reviews.

Metacritic assigns a 1-to-100 score to EACH REVIEW and then takes an average. Thus, Zootopia gets an 81 from MC (tied with "The Secret of Kells") and a 98 from RT (one notch higher than "Spirited Away").

Haven't seen Zootopia yet, but I'm betting Metacritic has it right.

I saw Zootopia yesterday and enjoyed it. It had a great story, but wasn't quite as "fun" as I had anticipated. There were occasional intense scenes, and the little girls in my row (probably about 2 & 4 years old) spent the entire time terrified (though it really didn't seem that scary to any of the other children in the theater)

Unsurprisingly, there's a lot more to the plot than what we've seen in previews. It seemed like most of the funny bits were included in the previews, so I was a little disappointed that we didn't get more animal-based humor. There were a lot of modern things that I could have done without (pretty much anything involving Gazelle, though toward the end it sort of had a purpose)

As a random aside, I'm pretty sure that Judy's non-police outfit is the same as Brer Rabbit's outfit. Maybe it only reminded me of it because they're both rabbits, but it did seem suspiciously similar

Surprisingly, this is probably going to be the boldest wide-release film of the year. How many other studios could do a feel good "we're all the same, yet have our unique differences" story that revolves around a police officer that was palatable to audiences of all ages? There were a couple times that it got *this* close to being preachy, but it always backed down. It's the sort of story that could really only be told in animation, and it used the medium very well

From what I saw, the MetaCritic score was more accurate than the Rotten Tomatoes one. It was a good movie, but not perfect
