Panasonic makes great moderately priced Plasmas that were top rated by consumer reports. I own a 50" Panny 1080P Plasma that is fantastic. For the LCD's, Sony and Samsung are two of the best, with the Sammys being much more reasonably priced. One last bit of info, the Plasma sets are of a darker tint and are very eye friendly when watching in a darkened environment. The LCD's are much brighter, and are great for watching in brighter rooms. My former set was LCD, and watching it in the dark, (which I prefer) was very fatiguing on my eyes. I have had no eye problems at all with Plasma. Some of the larger flat panels do put out a good deal of heat. When you watch the BBC's Planet Earth on Blu-Ray for the first time on your new set, I guarantee you will have no buyer's remorse.

And FWIW, the event staging department at my company will not buy Samsung sets anymore based on numerous technical problems and Samsung's horrendous customer support. Panasonics, Sharps, and Sonys have been reliable. YMMV.

(if you drink it that is) and the benefits of spending quality time with the DW on the couch? Don't forget thats only for one season one sport, and what about basketball, Hockey, Baseball and American Idol?
