The purple signs denote a change in jurisdiction from Orange County to Reedy Creek Improvement District (RCID), which is the entity that maintains the roads and highways at WDW. Disney may control RCID, but since RCID is a government body, the roads it maintains are public roads and anyone can drive on them (or walk along them where pedestrians are permitted) for any lawful reason or for no reason. It's only when you get to an actual park or resort parking lot that you transition onto what's actual Disney private property.

As long as they don't actually block customers or other employees, union picketing on private property is permitted. It's the same reason that when there's a supermarket strike, the pickets are usually right near the front doors of the supermarket rather than on the sidewalk. However, other types of picketing would not be permitted at that location. For example, if you wanted to picket or pamphleteer against gay marriage at that location, you're going to get the boot.

Any such protest would be at the discretion of Disney management, and they're unlikely to allow a protest against current Disney practices. If they choose to tell you to leave, either leave when asked, or be arrested by the police. But you could picket for such a thing all you wanted on the public sidewalk.

They're just a corporation that doesn't care one way or the other about these issues. Only things they know to care about are public image and profits.
