Michigan is #1 out of 50 in terms of unemployment. Why? Because we were a stong labor-union-based economy. Unskilled laborers were guaranteed $40+/hour. And the unions did everything they could to ensure the lowest possible production rate for that wage. And our products got priced out of the market. Foreign cars took over. Their quality-to-price ratio beat the heck out of anything that was US-made. In the meantime, UAW workers were shopping at Dollar Trees. And eating at fast food restaurants, where the workers were getting minimum wage. And doing whatever else they could do to get themselves the best possible deal. I'm sorry, too, that things are economically tough in the US. But I wouldn't say that our difficulties are due to people shopping at dollar stores.
