Anyway this doctor/inventor is doing women a great disservice. Most rape victims aren't severely disfigured or killed. But something like this will likely infuriate an already aggressive man who will have a propensity to gouge eyes out or punch the victim's face until she dies or is horribly disfigured.

I wonder if there's a potential invention that would mark the attacker without causing him pain and without even alerting him to the fact that he'd been tagged (and thereby inciting him to further violence). Some sort of vaginal equivalent of the exploding dye packs that are put into bags of money, perhaps. A long-lasting, non-visible chemical marker -- ideally, one that would be specific to the woman who installed it. I agree that major societal changes are needed to deal effectively with this horrible problem. But a little deterrant hardware couldn't hurt in the meantime.

It satisfies a hunger we all have to see these worst of our species punished so painfully, and so directly by turning their "weapon" against them. But I'm sure everyone here has heard that rape is a crime of power, not of sex. By retaliating, these men might feel that their power is being challenged by the woman, which would lead them to exert power in another way, which almost certainly means brutal violence (even more so).

Statistics indicate that the incidence of stranger rape is appallingly high in this country. This is not about women who make bad choices about who to date. And it's not a joke. But, yeah, the article was SO lacking in factual content. When does a woman wear this? If she's in a consensual sexual relationship, does she slip it in every morning before she leaves for work and then remove it when she gets home? And how does its "razor-sharp" feature cause debilitating pain without causing lasting damage?
