They are in the city. I'm an hour north away .. so I stick to my local multiplex. All I can think of .... Unlike many U.S. cities that become deserted after 5pm ... downtown Sydney becomes this swanky sophisticated place to go to ... where people have the money for a better cinema experience. As I meet people ... I learn salaries are significantly higher to U.S. jobs. We don't have a Disneyland, Universal Studios, or Knott's handy ... so .. the movies is where the "fun" budget perhaps tends to go. The closest Sydney has to a "fun" place to lavish money at is Luna Park. It's alright for a couple of hours ... for a park that has been restored to it's "1934" appeal. Though a nice premium movie night is probably more appealing. And lets not forget the Arclight/Cinerama Dome in Hollywood. That's a pretty "premium" place for a movie. Not sure though one can bring a meal into an auditorium.

LOL .. in a way ... thanks but no thanks! I'm someone who grew up on the Big Newport in Newport Beach, Grauman's Chinese, Cinerama Dome in Hollywood ... if my screen is less than 80 feet wide ... forget it! ;-) Fortunately ... where I'm at .. at my multiplex ... We got a 70 feet wide screen with these seats - http://pbs.twimg.com/media/BSv...xsGv.jpg Fully reclining plush seats. Yes ... just as spoiled as I was in Hollywood and O.C. ;-)

That area is definitely working-class, or welfare-class really, and certainly not able to support anything beyond the scary strip malls full of mom n' pop Taquerias and shady electronic cigarette emporiums. But the Anaheim Resort District and the 20 Million tourists and conventioneers it brings in each year is not low rent. They are middle to upper-middle class travelers with money to spend. There's a market there, they are just bypassing GardenWalk. Now that a 4-Star 475 room JW Marriott is being built at GardenWalk, it should be interesting to see how that mall responds a few years from now.
