Sure there are parts of it I don't like - but who knows - there may be ways around things yet in the future - long forgotten portals or whatever. The worst goodbye for me will be if Tennant doesn't come back for more full seasons after this season of specials - he makes a big difference for me Doctor wise --

It's been mentioned elsewhere re David Tennant that now they have a way to bring him back after he leaves if he wants to guest every so often. It's going to be a tough year ahead for Dr Who fans though without a full series and only 5 episodes of Torchwood to come. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that Martha's makes an appearance as was hinted at!!!

Originally Posted By FiveBearRugs Just wanted to let you guys know that three Classic Who serials were finally released in the US today: THE TIME MEDDLER, 1965 The First Doctor and Vicki welcome new companion Steven and find themselves in 11th century England, where a Mysterious Figure attempts to alter Britain's history. This would also mark the first time in the series where the Doctor would meet someone else of his own race: the Meddling Monk. BLACK ORCHID, 1982 This serial was a bit of a rarity for two reasons: 1.) It was only 2 parts and 2.) It was a period piece, which hasn't been done since 1967's The Highlanders, a Second Doctor serial which saw the introduction of fan-favourite companion Jamie MacCrimmon. The Fifth Doctor and his companions (Nyssa, Tegan and Adric) find themselves in 1920s Britain and part-take in cricket and a costume party. A Mysterious Figure looms the house where the party is taking place and eventually it goes all Agatha Christie on us. There's also mention of a special flower...could it be orchid? Perhaps black? With the exception of the Doctor and the TARDIS, there are no outer space references. THE FIVE DOCTORS 25th Anniversary Edition, 1983 For some reason I'm really obsessed with this 90-minute TV movie, although the fans are divided down the middle on it...and I've only seen snippets of it on YouTube. Someone, or something, is taking the various Doctors out of their own timestreams and placing them on their home planet of Gallifrey in a deadly arena called the Death Zone. I'm willing to bet that the person, persons or thing that is doing this naughty deed is somewhat...mysterious. The Doctors join forces and reunite with past companions as they deal with old foes like the Cybermen, the Master and the Daleks, er, a Dalek, as they unravel the mystery of the Tomb of Rassilon. This special was to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the show, and actually aired on PBS in the US a day before the Brits got to see it. Again, some fans praise it, while others didn't like it. The story went through half a dozen writers and various re-writes, due to such a huge task (how do you celebrate 20 years in 90 minutes) and the ever-changing schedules of the companions who were agreed to appear. The biggest upset of course, would go to perennial favourite Tom Baker, the much beloved and boggle-eyed Fourth Doctor, who agreed to appear in the movie, and decided to bow out. He does "appear" in the movie, with Romana II as his companion, through the use of footage from "Shada", a 1979 serial that was unfinished at the time due to a writer's strike. This 2-disc set features both the original 1983 and 1995 versions. The former has the much-loved crappy effects while the latter has some 90s-era CGI inserted. There's also a load of extras including special programs (originally aired in 1983) and commentaries.

I'm not sure where to start. I did think that parts of the resolution was a bit convenient, but on the whole it was pretty amazing. I just wish it had ended better for Donna. As I mentioned above, here in the UK someone compared what the Doctor did to her at the end with rape (perhaps a bit over the top), but she didn't want him to do it and he ignored her wishes. She didn't want to go back to what she was before, but with the Doctor being reminded of the death that follows him around he just wouldn't allow it. Both Rose and Martha got happy endings, it seems so unfair. That final scene with the Doctor and Wilf was fantastic. I'll miss Wilf as much as I'll miss Donna. Oh, and Daleks speaking German was very cool!!!

Yeah the correlation to rape is ludicrous - no one rapes someone to save their life...some writers need to get a life I think Donna got the best outcome available considering her circumstances. I am not sure Rose got a happy ending - she gets a Doctor clone ( sans 2nd heart)- but thelook on her face tells everyone she knows it's not the real thing...... the scene with Wilf is what I was talking about was a surprise - I too was taken by the emotion of it - also assuring the Doc he would be watching out for him. Dalek's speaking German was uber cool. ( I am German in heritage). I would love to get those sound bytes as ring tones !
