When you think aobut it, we live in a White heterosexual world, so when I see the guy in the movies (only read the first book), yeah I don't really think about it AT ALL what his preference or any of them, but yeah I would automatically assume he's straight before gay. That's just the way it is. Most people here assume I'm White before anything else, so its kind of cool that we let our assumptions change our POV on everything. So yeah, its kind of cool to know he's 'just gay' without a big deal about it---but STILL a big cop out the author decided NOW to mention lol. I mean, even if she didn't to explore anything, she still could've mentioned it like she just did when she was writing book 3 and not wait until after book 7 was done. I assume she would be worried about the controversy like someone else said because I'm sure there are no gay teachers and head masters anywhere in the world---or at least Iran . And yes, the book series is over, but there are two more movies to go and I imagine if this catches on in terms of news, everyone will be looking at him VERY differently in the next few lol.

But for fans (and I count myself as a fairly casual one) it's another welcome piece of information. This sort of thing is catalogued on websites all over, along with some random detail she let slip in an interview in 2002 - nothing is too mundane. I made a "dirty old man" joke about a FICTIONAL character who was always a little weird to begin with, something akin to the old Jon Belushi SNL gags about a part time drunken Santa and the parents who were reluctant to put the kids on his lap. Nothing was mentioned or even SUGGESTED about Dumbledore wanting to bend Harry over and rape him...as so many people here seem to want to imply. Brother, this is just silly. GEEZ, will you people get over yourselves?

No longer able to sustain the homophobe accusation, I get this, "OH, I see...you think pedophilia is FUNNY then? How DARE you?" Well, no. No, I don't. In fact my views on the matter are well documented on LP, to the point where I frankly encouraged people to abandon their religion rather than contribute financially to an organization that shelters child molesters. None of THAT, mattered though, as a gang of "offended" folks jumped in to express their outrage. Seriously guys...sometimes a joke is just a joke. I really hope Trey and Matt are reading this thread, it'd make an excellent episode for South Park.

He just made a joke which has been blown WAY out of proportion. I'm not gay, but have many gay friends and am particularly sensitive to homophobic comments, but I just don't see that as one (look to post 29 for a really homophobic standpoint which, curiously, has attracted much less heat than one throwaway line, which I can't really understand). IF Dumbledore was bringing Hermione back to his bedchambers for "private chats" after hours (particularly if he was straight), I'm sure there'd be more than a couple of eyebrows raised about it, but everyone's acting like it's absurd to even suggest that anyone would think it inappropriate. (Before anyone can say it, I'm not suggesting Dumbledore was hot for Harry - I think the relationship was more father-son and totally innocent.)
