No, I'm not. I considered this very issue before I posted, and I'm glad I now have the opportunity to address it head on.

I very specifically am NOT taking the 'Spirit hates Disney' line. My personal opinion is that you've built up enough credibility in your body of posts on LP that it's clear that that simply is not the case.

I know that some people take that attitude toward your posts since you can sometimes voice a negative opinion and are not an always-positive cheerleader as some expect, but I'm not one of them. In fact, I usually agree, generally, with what you have to say.

It's just that on this day on this topic (Iger's comments regarding ABD), I have a different opinion, and I happen to think you've let your opinion get the better of you in looking at it dispassionately. I hope that at worst, we can just agree to disagree.

<<< A CEO shouldn't be resigned to the 'one and done' mentality. >>>

I don't think he has, as I stated before. Promoting ABD doesn't necessarily have anything to do with anything negative going on at the resorts.

<<< And I do believe it is the Disney corporate mindset of late and has shown itself in a dumbing down of the product. Sell folks on the DISNEY MAGIC and if they come back, great (especialy if they buy into Disney's Best Kept Secret) ... if they don't, there are plenty of potential guests in waiting to take their place. >>>

Now with that, I very much agree, at least to a degree. There's the notion that they can just use keywords like Magic as marketing slogans without necessarily actually delivering it. There's the notion that in almost any aspect of the resort experience, there's a significant reduction in quality possible without the guest really noticing. I just don't see those issues as necessarily being related to Iger's comments about one-visit guests and ABD.

You beat me to it, Mr X. I wanted to be the first to offer Spirit one of those tinfoil hats. This thread has me worried about him a bit.

Even prior to that, the chances of any legit media deciding that your situation was worthy of coverage was incredibly minute. Just way too small and insignificant, no offense. But I KNOW media.<

Yes, you do know media. But so do I. And I disagree with your assessment. I think a nice article in the Orlando Sentinal, timed with a nice article in the Dallas Morning News, would generate enough email that CNN could very well pick it up as a human interest story. I'm sure it would never actually get to the point of hurting the megamonster like Disney. But I could absolutely generate enough negative publicity to the point where it would have been worth it for Disney to keep its promise.

And I also don't agree with your take on Iger's words. It seemed that he was simply stating a fact - that some folks come to Disney parks, have a great time, but aren't in a position to become repeat visitors like us uber-fans. And he wants a presence out there in the real world to try to catch some of their discretionary income. It seems like nothing more than good business sense to me.

It was a joke SuperDry. Just like I think this thread turned in to shortly after it started.

For your information I don't listen to radio. I very seldom turn it on in my car . When I do, it's on a music station or a ball game.

I do have a problem with people coming into this country illegally, and they are not immigrants. They are law breakers. Now would you like me to start stereotyping a profile of you, like you did me?

That's because you're too busy watching 3 televisions.

I recently had to get I9s on all our employees. Do I honestly think they would admit if they were illegal? I'm not that gullible, but at least now I've covered my back with the auditors.

Which is why threads like this accomplish nothing. My life strategy is to enjoy my life, watch out for me the best that I can, and if I live a good life there is no info out there that can hurt me. Someone's been watching all of us for a long time. It's nothing new.

On point to the original thread,if I fall at Disney or a CM is rude to me and Disney balks on a promise to compensate me, big deal. I have more important things to worry about than a free dinner or trip to Disney because a CM was rude or I trip over a curb and skin my knee (which btw did happen to me once...my fault, I was rushing out of MK after a parade and tripped over curb...Damn Disney, putting a curb right in my way) I guess I could have gone to guest relations and gotten a free meal or a balloon or something, but that's the problem. So many people expect Disney to comp them for things that could happen anywhere. With some exceptions, these are probably the same people who would lie about their children ages, abuse the refillable cups and are always looking for a handout. Someone tell me where I'm wrong here.

The fact that Disney would arrange for a free (whatever) in exchange for a non-disclosure statement is evidence that they know as well as the customer that they were in the wrong. And I'm not talking about the loud customer who is complaining about something stupid and Disney just gives them something to get them to shut up and go home. I mean situations where a visit was significantly screwed up, Disney steps up and makes it right, and then pulls the rug out afterwards. This did not happen in my case, and I have a hard time believing that they employ this tactic on any kind of a regular basis.

You could say that about every thread on LP.com. I'd rather think at the very least, threads make people think.

<<My life strategy is to enjoy my life, watch out for me the best that I can, and if I live a good life there is no info out there that can hurt me. >>

I certainly agree with the first two parts, but the last?

No way. There's not a person out there who doesn't have something to hide ... or if not hide, something they sure don't want anyone (other than perhaps family, friends or clergy) to know.

I hate the 'I have nothing to hide' line because it's been used to justify so many stupid things that hurt us all in the privacy department.

I may not have 'anything to hide' but I damn well don't want any company, individual or government agency snooping and having access to all sorts of intimate aspects of my life.

<<Someone's been watching all of us for a long time. It's nothing new.>>

The pace and scope of the snooping into the lives of Americans by both Big Business and the government has never been what it is now. The fact it has been going on isn't a good justification for it.

I think you're wrong from top to bottom. If Disney (or any company) makes an agreement with a guest to offer something orally and in writing and then management decides it can screw the guest over, that's morally repugnant to me.

And painting a broad brush over most anyone and everyone who might have had a similar experience to what the OP (who seems to have been pushed back into lurking) describes is classic 'blaming the victim'.

I guess some people would just rather believe Disney isn't a typical cutthroat corporation that often acts reprehensibly in dealing with guests because IT CAN.

Again, I think it's very much part and parcel of the post-9/11 Defending da Man mantra that says whatever authority (either our government or Big Business) does should be justified.

Yep- off shore- isn't that grand.

Never said it wasn't and I most certainly have been treated horribly by Disney at times. I'm not naive. I just don't care. There's more important things going on in my life.

I'm too lazy to respond to your other points but I will say that I agree with your feelings about privacy, but not to the point where I let it affect my DTD activity.

    >and this has been a 2 party push - government grows larger every day and freedoms of choice and privacy are disappearing daily.<

Agreed. Stand up and revolt. As for me, I guess I'm one of the minority that does believe that govt has our best interest in mind, but I'm not so naive to believe that everything they do is for us. Again, I just live my life and take care of myself and my family.

It is difficult to deal with that thought. It's like being told your mother was a prostitute when she was younger.

I'm with you VBDAD, and what makes it even worse is that these blood-sucking companies work on commission.
