You may or may not suffer, but most likely everyone in your town or county isn't going to be hit, leaving some local people in a position help. Earthquakes, strong ones anyway, and hurricanes both level whole regions. If I had to pick between living through a catagory 5 hurricane and a 8 Richtor scale earthquake I think I'd pick the earthquake, 'cause it is over quicker and you're on to the clean up. However, the hurricane does have the strong advantage that you do get warning, so you can board up your windows, buy your supplies (and theoretically get out of dodge!). I think that's it's major "appeal" as a disaster.

Plenty time to evacuate ... and perhaps the most damage when I come back to my home may be a cake of ash that can be washed off. That's why the Pacific Northwest of the US (to me) is more safe than any other part of the US. Not to mention the New England states which actually have none of the 4! They get the occasional hurricane .. but pretty safe .. and the world's most gorgeous Autumns! So ... no thanks to California (earthquakes) no thanks to the states in Tornado Alley. no thanks to the golf states and lower eastcoast to Hurricanes. So anyone living in a New England state has it the best. And though the Pacific Northwest states DO have earthquakes too ... they "seemingly" don't come across as dangerous as California is .. with HUNDREDS of fault lines running underneath it.

And think of the looting scene in Pirates of the Caribbean x10,000! Chemical plants are another danger. Anyway ... to properly answer Mr. X's question ... Hurricanes first (best warning) Tornados (second best warning) Earthquakes last (NO warning)

White out conditions, impossible to navigate in a car, can lead to stranded motorists freezing to death pretty easily (not to mention car accidents and pileups in zero visibility). Sure, it's fine when you're home cuddling up lol. But when you're not, it's plenty treacherous as well. http://www.marydyer.net/images...of78.gif
