We will be taking lots of breaks..

We had this experience in April when I needed a wheelchair for a day. We compromised with me helping DH out going uphill.

    On topic:
For all these years I have felt like I am the only one. We used to do it to save money but now, we just do not eat Park food.
I pack in my gluten-free goodies and have to carry fruit (apples and grapes travel well) and veggies. Thank god for baby carrots.

I actually spend the little bit extra to get the peeled , cored, sliced apples for out trips. because they are easier. I will probably be taking the advice of a PP and make some cookies to take with us.
We usuallly splurge on one snack a day, and one meal.

I had dinner at Mimi's every night and I'd order something that came with the free muffin.. which I would keep for breakfast the next morning. Also, the brad baskets have two types of bread so my parents would wrap up the fruit loaf and have that as a snack in the park. The big muffin for breakfast, pineapple around lunch time then dinner at Mimi's and I was FULL.
Also, we bought a bulk pack of bottled water at Target.. it worked out really really cheap and we took those in with us. If the water ran out in the park we just refilled it with tap water.

We had planned ahead and took snack pack of chips and such in with us but NEVER ate them. We found the food really rich and we were ALWAYS full. Even at dinner we'd often eat two off the same dish.

    Juice boxes
    Cliff Z Bars
    trail mix
    Quaker oatmeal granola bars
    dried mangos
    raisins
    goldfish crackers
    fruit bars
    pretzels
    peanuts
    sunflowers seeds (shelled)

I will place a safeway.com order just before we leave to deliver our perishables. Don't want to waste a precious hour of ride time at Vons when we get there.

We are staying at Del Sol Inn right next to Denny's so we'll eat there with the kids eat free after 4pm plan. Is that daily or just certain days?

I'm going to order more kids meals for myself and split meals at Zocalo and Plaza Inn. My kids love the enchiladas at Zocalo.
Last time we ate at Carnation Cafe I wanted to order to the PB & J masterpiece too (I love a good pb & j every now and then) and they said adults cannot order kids meals. : (
I'm sure counter service is different since they don't see your child right there in front of them while you're ordering.
    Anyone else have that happen?

Maybe when they are older we will go and stay at Del Sol, that way we can close the park down...

We go to Food for Less when we get there and get milk, cheese, fruit, cereal, bread, etc. and keep them in the in hotel room fridge. We share Po Boys from Ralph Brennan's, nachos from Tortilla Joe's, lots of places serve big enough portions to share. I want to hear more ideas too, this is fun!

Another thing to consider is bottles of juice instead of the juice boxes. They cost a bit more, but if they open it right before a ride, you can put the lid back on it and not have to throw it away. I usually buy a 6 pack of them at walmart (about $3) and then buy a large bottle of juice to refill them with for the next day. Then again I don't let my kids drink more than 2 juices during the day and mainly stick to water. Occasionally we will buy the small soda bottles and let them take those in to have with dinner or lunch. We just ask for a cup of ice for the soda.

Mickeysbestfan- good point about the chocolate in a granola bar. Pretty messy last time. Also, I no longer buy Nutrigrain Bars..too delicate for the backpack.
I make the kids drink water, they usually get juice in the AM.

I always get water and ice from the soda machines and DH gets a refillable diet coke.
