If mainstream press knew of this story, it's a violation of the edwards' privacy. IF he were an active candidate for something, that'd be a different matter. And since edward's went public with the story, the media is now free to cover it. But to publish salacious rumors of marital infidelity about someone who isn't currently occupying or campaigning for public office - just because they're "famous" - would be irresponsible journalism. Enter the "National Enquirer". Now to my more controversial view - Elizabeth Edwards is complicit in this entire matter. We're told that she was told of this affair in 2006, yet she supports her husband's run for the white house in 2007 and 2008, knowing what she knows. The edwards' - BOTH of them - were placing the ability of their party to get a democrat into the white house. This affair would be a deal-breaker if it ever came out (like it did) and they're both smart enough to know that, but launched a full-scale campaign anyway. What hubris.
