The only difference in Japan is... that CM's *will* confront the guests who light up and ask them to put it out, then go to the smoking areas. Very seldom, if at all, do I see japanese guests violating the no-smoking policy while in the parks. TDR hotels still have the choice of smoking or no smoking rooms. >>And Disney Paris for that matter?<< There is no policy. Guests there smoke at will, in just about any area of the park.. in queues, in restaurants, as they walk thru the park, during shows and parades... etc etc. There simply is no regards for the few posted NO Smoking signs...and NO ONE enforces anything because CMs in DLP just do not care to bother... DLP hotels however do offer no smoking choices if I remember well...

But the balcony thing... I remember reading a sci-fi book a while back where one of the characters is enjoying a smoke on his balcony, "one of the few hotels in the city that didn't have non-smoking balconies". At the time I read it, I chuckled. Wow.

However, I do think that we have 50 states, and that we should designate two of them as "The Smoking States." "Bring us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe less free...." I would nominate Nevada. And then right after that, Texas. Lots of room, lots of open spaces.

Now, as to guests climbing over fences to see parades or pose for pics, well, that's another story! (BTW, all restaurants, bars and clubs in the city of Paris will go smoke-free on 1/1/08. Can't wait to see how that'll be enforced.)

Disney already goes overboard with not being confrontational with it's guest. When they ban smoking in the clubs in Paris I predict there will be bigger riots than when the Muslems had their way with the police there.

I'm a DVC member who's spent $40,000 on my 'investment' and after 6-7 years Disney is going to suddenly tell me I can't smoke in 'my unit' ?! Yeah, sure. If I were prone to ROTFL, I'd be doing so right now.
