Have to take into consideration the fact that the guy is a mega-millionaire.

Seriously. When you sit on that kind of a cash pile, there's not much of a rush from gambling conservatively. I'm sure McCain, like most Whales, probably risks enough to make the rest of us have a heart attack.

(on the other hand, for folks like me placing a $25 chip on the blackjack table can be downright heartwrenching lol)

Yea, but you bet at least $20 per hand for a while and they will give you all the booze you want and then some!!

Last time I was betting at the Flamingo Blackjack tables (and I'm a small time bettor - $10 minimum table) I was up over $400.

Heck, it was one fine time. Once I got up a bit the kind cocktail waitresses started offering me doubles. How cool is that?? I had just about the best time a guy could have from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM.

Initial investment was $200. Amount I dropped from my high water mark was $400. In the meantime I had one helluva good time for 6 hours while being served enough drinks that I felt no pain.

Where but Vegas could you have that kind of excitement for a crummy $33 per hour?

    It’s VEGAS BABY, LAS VEGAS!!

High roller? Not necessary. If you just gamble (quarter machines; $10-$15/hand BJ) in the hotel you're staying at you eat for free in the nice restaurants.

They weren't talking about the amount he bet, but his betting style. I don't know if you know craps, but although there are about 50 different bets you can make, only about 4 of them are smart, high-odds bets (pass or come with the odds, placing the 6 and/or 8), so it's really simpler than most people realize.

Rather than take the high-percentage bets, according to this article, McCain favors bets like the hardways and the "whirl" which pay off great IF they hit, but don't hit very often.

Right. Well, that's sort of what I meant too. In other words, a regular (conservative) craps player might double their cash on a good night...but a risk taker like McCain will either clean up the house or lose it all.

My point was, if you've got mega-millions, where's the fun in doubling your money (it's not like there isn't piles more where that came from).

    Just a tangent, that's all.
