I'd be really interested to read your perspective, since it sounds like you were very involved with WDW at the time. I don't remember visiting Epcot until the mid-90's, and it was already beginning to change at that point, but I still remember the overall vibe that it had. The original spirit is still lurking in the park somewhere, but it can be hard to find.

I think I enjoy the park so much because it sparks memories of when Disney was willing to take bold and inspiring risks, rather than actually enjoying the park for what it is today.

Anyway, went to EPCOT a few months later....EPCOT is NO Worlds' Fair! Not even close! The Worlds Fair was SO much better.

I lOVE epcot, but it's just like a junior varsity fair at best.

From the massive attractions of Future World, to the intimate explorations of each country in the World Showcase, everything at EPCOT was new and different from what had come before. And it was amazing!

None of Disney's other theme parks after has ever been this much of a departure from the "norm". And I think that's part of what makes EPCOT so special to those of us that experienced it during it's Golden Age.

I just looked up the Brussels World's Fair 1958 on Wikipedia. Look at the photo of the Thai Pavilion. Wow....

I think there was some kind of connection between that fair and Disney's CircleVision film.

I have never been to a World's Fair--but I was at EPCOT Center's opening day.
