But ultimately it's a matter of taste. Some folks consider a magical WDW vacation just 'riding the rides' ... and doing so mostly at MK and Studios ... those folks can't/don't/won't appreciate what the World Showcase offers. Thankfully, there are plenty more who feel otherwise. Now if we can just get Jim to show some vision (which the last three Epcot VPs were missing ... along with personality)and perhaps start keeping WS open later (10 during the week, midnight on weekends) for ALL guests, he might see an increase in food and beverage and merchandise sales.

Have you not seen any of the live entertainment around the WS? What about IllumiNations?

There is plenty of room for 'rides' in Future World. The Showcase is what it is, and it is NOT about 'rides'.

It's also bad business for Disney, but a line of three imbecile VPs in the past dozen years made it seem like a great way to contain labor costs ... missing the point that WS was always designed to stay open later because of its shopping and dining and drinking components.

I would love for there to be some more educational attractions about the history and culture of the countries represented. Some of the early ideas for e-tickets in Germany and Italy were pretty cool, along with the Meet the World attraction that was supposed to go to the Japan pavillion but went to TDL instead (now closed). I know we won't see these ideas resurected, but it would be nice.
