We had a family who lived across the street from us with 3 boys - the youngest boy was about 3 or 4 years older than me, and we rode the bus together (one bus for elementary, middle, and high school kids). For some reason, he liked to pick on me. A lot. All verbal until one day when he pulled a headband out of my hair and broke it at the same time he was pulling my hair. This was when I was in 5th grade, and he was an 8th or 9th grader. Anyhow, by the end of the day, word had spread through the high school enough that my oldest brother (who was in I guess 11th grade at the time) heard about it and beat the crap out of the kid. That stupid boy was not allowed on the school bus anymore after that incident, and my brother got in trouble at school and had detention for a week. But Dale never again bothered me.

I was bullied by kids in my class, one kid who was several years older than me, and a couple of kids younger than me (brother & sister; they would sit behind me on the school bus & hit me on the head repeatedly; I never had a backbone then to stand up to them).

I remember one Valentine's Day, I got a card from one of the guys in my class who had always been horrid to me. I was so excited at first, reading the outside of the card and thinking he had changed his ways. When I opened it up, the inside was just a horrible message about how fat I was.

Another thing I was bullied about was my intelligence, how I was always getting As on tests and stuff.. It got so bad in elementary school that I actually started putting the wrong answer on tests so I wouldn't get picked on.

I just wish I had developed a spine and confidence earlier. Elementary school & middle school were just so freakin' bad at times for me.

That behavior alot happened is public school but not in the private school I attended for high school.
I don't feel that uncomfortable feeling when I ask questions now.

Finally I had enough one day and told him to perform the act of making love on himself. That set him off. The usual 3:00 in the parking lot mumbo jumbo. I lived a few blocks from school and being a few years older walked with my sister and her friend who were in the third grade. Right next to the school was a field you could cut through while walking.

As I was walking the bully and his lackey where following us. And as usual he was talking crap. Naturally a crowd started to gather. But we kept walking. We get to the end of the field where the sidewalk started to meet up. Finally he came up from behind and gave me a hard shove which is typical of a bully to go for the cheap shot. So I land on the sidewalk and scraped up my hands a bit and am kneeling on the ground. Now he starts to laugh and mocking me asking me what I'm going to do about it. And as he's doing this he's leaning forward with his arms at his aka his guard is down. Now if this was a movie, the next scene would be in slow motion. I make a fist with my right hand and connect with a jab right to his nose. Cut back to regular motion. His nose was like a faucet because blood just started pouring down his face. He was screaming and crying and ran away. I picked up my belongings and headed back home. He didn't say one word to me the next three years.

After Class, (Luckly I was wearing a heavy jacket) I felt something hit my back. He threw the dart and bounced off my jacket. I turned around and picked up the dart, and handed it back to him and said, "If you ever do that again I'll throw it right back at you!". Never had a problem with him again. We wasn't great friends after that, but talked once in a while. Guess where he is at now? He's on Death Row!!
