Originally Posted By englishboy NO REPLY TO SCOTT POWERS EMAIL SENT FRIDAY Did anyone else email scott powers at the paper? I emailed him last Friday with a simple message. So far (Monday afternoon), no response. All the note required was a simply yes/no reply. The note is below. I was wondering if he responded to anyone since he claimed to be open to inquiries. Did anyone else at all write him? Anyway, for one LP poster, no reply so far. My gut sense is that since the OP decided not to post photos, the claim is not as stated. Would any lawyer advise not to post the photos but let a client make such posts one a webboard? I don't know. But why would OP claim to have photos and then not post them? Also I can't shake the strong and unique similarities between this claim and the plotline of that Final Destination 3 film that opened last week as well. The initial plot of FD3 involves lapbars opening on a rollercoaster in motion, pretty much the exact same way that the OP describes, only in the film the lapbars open for the entire car, not just for one person. But until now, I've never heard of the hydrolic lapbar system ever failing, and to see two versions of that story in the same week--very odd. Also, I know it's only Monday, so if I do get a reply from Scott Powers, of course in fairness to the OP, I'll post it. Scott, I saw your post over at LP. I just want to confirm that at Disney's Animal Kingdom on Jan. 26 an adult male rider experienced a failure in the lapbar system on the Everest attraction. Officials at Disney confirmed this story with you? Thanks, XXXX

I made it clear to the unload CM's that this had happened, and they seemed to take it seriously. There have been no other repercussions from this, but I just wanted to let you all know that it is indeed possible.

(His name is at the end of the first paragraph, where he is identified as a staff writer.) I went back to read post #1 again. In light of subsequent information, I am still puzzled over the posters original intent. And I am still very doubtful about a couple of her assertions. As I stated earlier, I was willing to give "guineapig" the benefit of the doubt, up until the point she attacked anyone who expressed doubt. Rather than offer supporting information, she accused doubters of being in the thrall of the Walt Disney Company. Yet, as anyone who has been here for any length of times knows, the most skeptical here tend to be just as skeptical of Company claims as well. I also know full well that Disney would never make statements to the effect that there are no safety features on their attractions. An hourly cast member might misspeak in the heat of the moment, but a spokesman in Guest Relations would know better than to say anything remotely like that which has been charged. I am no mind reader, but I do have a theory on what is really going on here. I believe the OP wants something-- some sort of compensation for a perceived hurt. And she has dramatized something that was relatively minor in an effort to derive greater compensation. Yes, there was an unfortunate incident. But it was certainly not life threatening or even newsworthy. I believe that after several fruitless efforts to get soemthing from Disney, the OP was dissatisfied. So, she turned to this on line forum to try and drum up support. (That's why it took so long between the time of the incident and the inital post. If it was such a trauma, why the delay from 01/29 to 02/09?) Simply put, "guineapig" was unable to get satisfaction (on her terms) from the attraction host, the manager, Disney spokemen, or the media. So, she came here. But the LP community viewed this incident in the same way that all the rest did-- with healthy skepticism. It is not cruel or unkind to ask for charges like these to be qualified. And the OP has failed repeatedly to do this. Sorry that you are so unhappy, "guineapig." And I do hope your husband and daughter will be able to move on from this. But please don't take out your frustration on the people in this forum.

Serious injury is losing an appedage with a chain saw, trauma to one's head in a car collision, or an elderly slipping in a bathroom and breaking a hip or a million other examples where one needs immediate medical attention. If one were holding tight in an awkward position for 1 and 1/2 minute ride I would accept soreness but "SERIOUS INJURY" I am a skeptic. 4 You claim that you have pictures of this incident but I have not seen any. The bar may or may not have lifted- there is no way that I can conclude either way at this time. I am not saying that you are lying but I find your post very incredible.

I couldn't imagine stepping off of a roller coaster and be like "oh, by the way, um yes, my lapbar popped up during the ride, perhaps you should have a look see?" I would be close to a nervous breakdown but that's just me. Could you imagine this happening on Rockin' roller coaster?????? Hello?! Can you say dead meat? Not to mention this is one of my biggest fears and I yank yank yank on my lapbar whenever I go on a coaster like a total spaz...
