ORWEN: Wouldn't you all feel just terrible if you found out--later on--that she wasn't really making up her story? I mean, it's okay to ask for proof. But way you go about asking for it can really hurt if it's not done with more care. Calling someone a troll before you're sure they really are one--that's risky.

I'm absolutely certain. That's good enough for me.

No Kimrue, there are no corkscrews of loops in EE. If a coaster doesn't come equipped with 'over the shoulder' harnesses, you pretty much know it won't turn you upside down.. Trust me.. EE ius about the tamest big coaster you will ever ride. Just a bit more intense than Big Thunder...

As wahoo skipper will attest (he used to work there), the ride is rather bumpy and throws you around quite a bit. And although I've never rode EE, I would expect that Mean Streak throws you around quite a bit more than EE. Was I alarmed? Yes. But, instinctively, I held the lap bar down. MS is equipped with seat belts, so, I really wasn't too worried about being thrown out of the train. But, even without a seat belt, the design of the seat (which is well padded) would essentially prevent me from flying out of the train, especially while holding on. When the train returned to the station, I reported what happened to the ride attendant. She immediately asked if I was injured (which I wasn't) and the immediately 'roped-off' that seat from use. I'm not sure what else they may have done about the incident, but, since no one else on the train had a problem, roping off the seat was probably all that was necessary. I'm sure that an incident report was possibly filed for maintenance to look at the bar.

As for the possibility of EE having this problem, yes, I'm sure that it possibly could. I really don't know what type of lateral forces are on the ride, but, judging by the video, I would have to guess they are minimal due to the design and layout of the track. But, again, this is only speculative since I've not ridden EE yet, if one were to hold on to lap bar (or a stationary bar if the cars have one). I would imagine that, although it may have added an extra 'thrill' to the ride (a very scary one, I might add), I can't see how an injury of this nature would occur. Of course, if it did happen, we don't have all the details either.

There have been other incidents at other parks where lap bars have failed and more serious injuries, even death, have resulted. (Superman: Ride of Steel at Six Flags New England comes to mind where a rider was thrown to his death due to a lap bar failure.) But, this kind of event is very rare, thankfully!

But just like brotherdave I knew to grab on to the bar and also hold on to side of the car. Plus, like what was mentioned in a much earlier post the seat itself was suffient to hold me in place. While scary, I didn't feel the need to report it, both because I was not injured and I was only in junior high at the time and was more interested in getting the next thrill then worrying about a minor incident.

Speaking of which -- I heard the other day that Camp Snoopy at MOA was actually CLOSING!

Are you kidding? No WAY! I figured.

Turns out to be partially true. I looked it up on the web and apparently they're losing the Snoopy connection. All things Snoopy and Peanuts are going away. But the park will remain open as the "Park at MOA?"

    For how much longer?.....

Not that I believe this incident -- I'm a CM and have some inside connections. I suspect we would have heard if something like this happened. It didn't.

But thinking about it some -- Even if G forces would normally hold you into your seat in a case like this -- If a safety bar were to come loose on a moving train, and they really didn't know about G-forces and thought they were about to be ejected/injured from the car, I suspect they could cause damage to themselves in a scramble to hold onto something.

    Yes? No?

I suspect a conspiracy here. The only way a single lapbar coming loose could do so much damage is if it were a "magic lapbar."

This is really great. And the ride attendant probably thought they were doing a great job, too.

Can you imagine getting on a plane and seeing a sign on a seat that says "Please don't sit here -- I'm defective?"

Seeing a sign or rope on a seat on a coaster train would have me seriously thinking about the safety of the whole ride.

Agreed. But it appears to be "Surprise!" a money issue.

    >> "As a result of a licensing dispute between the mall and United Media, which controls the rights to the Peanuts brand, Camp Snoopy was to be erased from the Twin Cities' retail and entertainment landscape Wednesday." <<

For those of you with a mind to such things -- there was a great article in The Onion back in June of 2005 that predicted the closure of "Camp Snoopy," along with the other big round of military base closures in 2005.

    Check it out at --
