As for the billboards...well, they were...well, long billboards. The yeti's eyes were glowing red, but other than that it was pretty bland for Times Square. The event started at 10 and some nice music started to play. I have to say, the score was nice, and since the real attraction doesn't have music, they could easily put that music in the attraction and it would make for better mood setting. Anyway...the event was, well, a publicity stunt. It lasted about 5 minutes. There was a guy climbing up the side of the "mountain" up to the yeti's face. While he was doing that, there were four acrobats twirling and swinging on the billboard under him. It was...just ok. Once the climber reached the top, some smoke blasts came from the top of the yeti's head, and that was it. They were passing out little "passports" promoting the attraction on the street, so I got one of those. It's not much, just more ads, and a discount for the NYC World of Disney store. I'm glad I caught it, but it really wasn't that impressive considering it's location. The billboards are even less impressive in person. Lee, were you there this morning in the media area?

Cute stunt but nothing spectacular. It is funny as they have had a few big DAK stunts in NYC. They formed a huge DAK logo in Central Park before it opened that worked well too.

Yes, this makes sense. The Matterhorn doesn't have music either. I just thought that it might be more like a film, that does have score. I guess you could go either way with it. Since they went the "realistic" route, I guess the music-free version is best. So, Lee, were you in the media pen this morning?

Based on this argument, the use of music in many attractions compromises the integrity. Do you suppose people are really wondering where the band organ is hidden on every California Screamin' train? Or why there is full orchestral accompaniment for pirates who sing in full harmony? Or just exactly how an orchestra maintains its abilities as it hurtles through space in Star Tours? These attractions are, ostensibly, happening in real time in real locations. (Locations as real as EE's, anyway.) And each is aided immeasurably by a musical score. Back on topic-- while this stunt sounds great on paper, I would think it would get lost in the incredible distraction of Time's Square. Does it manage to hold its own among the visual din?

Oh, that's a shame. I just registered for the event, so I'm definitely going since the ticket is non-refundable. The food sounds good, and I'm sure it will be a lot of fun. "Back on topic-- while this stunt sounds great on paper, I would think it would get lost in the incredible distraction of Time's Square. Does it manage to hold its own among the visual din?" To be honest, not really. It's not so visually striking that it immediately grabs your attention. Maybe if the Yeti and train were 3-D? As it is, everything is flat and "snowy" white, so it's got a very bland look for Times Square. People this morning weren't even sure where to look at times.

DCA's CS has been a dud for me since the sound system was turned off. As for Everest... where are the sound effects you are talking about Lee, because in my review (the one you likely didn't care to read since you are not into what others have to say here) The only sound effects I have heard in that ride are the train's whistle, the Yeti's roar as you go by it, and ONCE I heards the sound of a train as the coaster came out of the helix, audible from the viewing area, but even this sound effect seems to be inop most times... I even offered an idea about a 3D sound effect that would enhance the ride during those seconds just before your train rushes backwards... As for Rohde...I appreciate his determination to maintain Disney's quality at a level that matches the price of admission.. I really do. But even his obsession goes a bit overboards at times with his ideas overriding other issues to consider.... Case in point, the lovely EE queue... extremely well themed yet, not long enough to hold the stand by masses who will decend upon EE in the coming weeks during Spring Break. I can see the Stand by line stretching as far back as the monkey exhibit in Asia.

I'm not about to apologise for not reading your reviews. I also don't need your respect thank you.

Originally Posted By CTXRover <<As for Everest... where are the sound effects you are talking about Lee,>> There are multiple sound effects used throughout EE. This is picky, but as I remember them: The train whistle as it leaves the station, the sounds of birds chirping as you go up the first mini lift hill and past the mountain and before the main lift, "prayer music" is played as you proceed through the temple, the sound of the train whistle can be heard once again as you exit the temple along with the sound of creaking trustles as you countinue the climb up to the mountain, the sound of squealing wheels as the train comes to a halt at the first track switch, the screech of the falcon from the front of the train and the roar of the yeti that seems to be echoing from inside the mountain from behind you at the first track switch, followed by the appropriate sound effects as the train is "let go" to start the backwards portion, then the sound associated with the whole shadow projection at the second track switch, the roar of the Yeti is heard once again when you re-enter the mountain right after the big drop and again all associated sound effects with the Yeti AA sighting at the end of the ride. That's pretty picky I know, but there are a lot of sound effects througout the ride...some of which may completely go unnoticed especially during the first half of the ride (such as the birds chirping....I didn't even think that was fake until I realized you could only hear it at specific portions of the ride and it was consistent between rides, even on different days). Wouldn't mind though if some of them, particularly the Yeti roars, were a bit louder. I think a score would have added some good suspense, especially during the pitch black backwards portion, but since everything else has such a real and authentic feel to it, I suppose a soundtrack could be deemed inappropriate.
