And not listed Shaggy D.A., Miracle, or the new version of Freaky Friday among the 'best' live action.

Odd that they're some of the newer ones. But, as a kid, I was a fan of Disneyland, and not always the animated. "The Sword in the Stone" The Jungle Book" "The Aristocats" "Robin Hood" "The Rescuers" -- those were the ones that came out when I was a kid. And...eh. Not so much.

I also have to agree with Magic about Make Mine Music. Although it wasn't really a traditional feature, it includes some of the best shorts Disney's done.

Interestingly, the EW (the acronym seems appropriate) reporter mentioned that they thought that Home on the Range was a better fit for a Saturday morning cartoon series. While the reporter implied it in a derogatory manner, I completely agree, but in an enthuastic way. Although the film was a bust and the plot wasn't very exciting, I've always felt that the characters and situations would have been great for a TV series. They were all fairly likeable, and had a great group dynamic. I don't know what sort of situations they could get themselves into in each episode, but the feature just seemed like some great creativity that was misdirected

Seriously, Sleeping Beauty on the worst list. Sleeping Beauty is a beautiful film and it was ingenious to use Tchaikovsky for the score. The guy couldn't even give any concrete reasons why he thought it was one of the worst.

As others have pointed out, Song of the South belongs on the live action list and Saludos Amigos and the Three Caballeros belong on the animated list.

OK heres my top 5 at the moment anyway.

    1. Lady and the Tramp
    2. Sleeping Beauty
    3. Lion King
    4. Mulan
    5. Tangled

    2. Pinocchio -- brilliant throughout.
    3. Dumbo -- charming and probably the best in terms of unified characters all looking like they're from the same "world" -- sometimes there is a mix of realistic with cartoony characters and it doesn't always mesh.
    4. Jungle Book -- great music and voices and Kaa make it worth the price of admission.
    5. Beauty and the Beast -- great music, and the film that showed Disney Feature Animation was BACK!

    Bottom 5:
    5. Brother Bear
    4. Sword in the Stone -- great magic battle between Mim and Merlin, but otherwise, it never really gets going, ends on a TV joke!
    3. Black Cauldron -- Watched this only once, felt like a mish mash.
    2. Home on the Range -- loved the cartoony look of it, but the story just didn't hold up at all.
    1. Alice in Wonderland -- lots of old radio schtick, I just don't think it works. But I really don't care for Alice in Wonderland in any form.

    However...

the McKenzie Moose commentary on the DVD a la MST3K is hilarious! Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis doing what they do best.

    Treasure Planet,
    Lilo & Stitch,
    Sleeping Beauty.

    But that could change daily.

Bottom of the pile for me would be

    Aristocats,
    101 Dalmatians,
    Lady & The Tramp,
    Aladdin,
not sure.... it's hard to think of a movie that doesn't have at least one redeeming feature!

As a general rule I think the package movies are all great.

And where was POTC:COTBP on the live-action list?!!!

Nor one of mine. But damn if it doesn't look beautiful on Blu-Ray. The colors are simply gorgeous. Made me appreciate the film more.

So much about that film makes it stand apart from the other classics. It was, I think, the pinnacle of the Disney studios going for something ambitious and almost experimental. ("Fantasia" would be the other possible contender for this title -- always been ambivalent about that one. Never thought Beethoven needed Walt Disney's help.)

But "Bambi" -- The atmospheric opening. The very impressionistic, stylized backgrounds. The very "organic" story (pardon the pun). A film in which the human race is the villian.

Kinda sounds like the first half of "Wall-E," Pixar's most ambitious film as well.

Not saying "Bambi" is the most purely entertaining film Disney made (that's probably "Dumbo," "Aladdin," or "Beauty and the Beast"). But it's a masterpiece, no question.

I'll agree on the first two points, but the story was pretty ho hum.

Dinosaur is to Land Before Time as Cars is to Doc Hollywood!!!

And why is everyone hating on "Robin Hood" so much? It's a fun movie!

As for what they said about "Song of the South", I feel that until the movie is released to the general public, no one who hasn't seen it can really give a credible critique about it. I mean, have any of the people at EW actually seen it? How do they really know? I wouldn't classify it in the top 10, but definitely the top 20. And yes, I thoroughly understand why it has been locked away to moulder.

Anyone else notice how the following films didn't even make the grade for this list?

    "Saludos Amigos"
    "The Three Caballeros"
    "Make Mine Music"
    "Fun and Fancy Free"
    "Melody Time"
"The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad"
    "The Sword in the Stone"
"The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh"
    "The Rescuers"
    "The Fox and the Hound"
    "Oliver and Company"
    "The Rescuers Down Under"
    "Pocahontas"
    "Fantasia 2000"
    "Dinosaur"
    "The Emperor's New Groove"
    "Atlantis: The Lost Empire"
    "Lilo and Stitch"
    "Treasure Planet"
    "Meet the Robinsons"
    "Bolt"
    "The Princess and the Frog"

Are these films too irrelevant, or too bad, to be even mentioned?
