It's very easy to sit back and say, "well, that's not what being Christian REALLY means" when it doesn't fit with your interpretation of Christianity. However, for many people he represented the pinnacle of being Christ-like. When there are so many different interpretations and understandings about the same religion and you call it by the same name it gets confusing. It's not that certain people here truly THINK that Falwell represented what Christ would want, it's that Falwell and his followers believe it. To many people James Dobson isn't Christ-like in his actions or words, but to a large number of people he is exactly that. And he's a Christian. Unless you happen to disagree with his particular breed of Christian and then you can just write him off. The fact is that he bases his actions and words on his own belief about how Christ would want him to live. Your interpretation might be different but what makes it any more right? Making people believe that you hold the key to their eternal soul is very powerful. If you can do that, you can say or do almost anything and if people still think you hold the key then they'll follow you.

I'm glad you've invented this theolgy for yourself where you do the things you want and not do those you don't. And you also get to condemn others who don't do what you want, too. It's how it always works in all religions. But a christian is someone who believes that christ is god and their savior. That is what a christian is. If it meant "christ like" then there wouldn't be a single one on the planet. "Anyone who reads history..." Anyone who reads history knows that the christian church is little more than a corrupt institution designed to hold power over an uneducated and easily influenced set of populations. "You say that Christians deserve to be stereotyped because they have chosen to be Christian" No, actually, I never said that. "it sounds like you have already made up your mind." Of course I've made up my mind. I've seen far too much by far too many to have some half-baked apologist ramblings try and tell me what I know throughout history to have occurred are just oopsies.

You seem to claim history as a justification for this, but can't that be said for anyone with such a remark against any group?

"you have given yourself the license to make broad statements against certain groups" Ah, I see. When someone, as a member of a group, decides to behave in a reprenhesible manner to a minority group, it's ok, but when these things are made mention, that's a tragedy. Of course, I understand completely. The fact is I have nothing against Germans, nor Christians. But feel free to malign me further since you are new here, and don't know much about me.

But since you've already used two separate threads to make virulently anti-semitic remarks, what a surprise that you'd want to jump in to try and make some in a third. Not that you have, but I'm sure it does your heart well to see others do it. As for misreading me, you can read whatever you want. If you don't like the documented history of what the christian church has done, that's fine. If you think me making comments about it, as opposed to some bigot on here claiming all jews are good business people is the same sort of thing, then you really are not connecting the dots very well on this. But again, it's a very ingrained belief and behavior, and it's not going to get corrected by me telling you. However, I would say that you, jmoore, really haven't said all that much at all, unlike another poster or two here. So you are likely feeling a bit confused as to why I'm saying this to you. It's a bit of crossfire.
