Originally Posted By dshyates "How is that an interesting update? all of it is stuff that was already mentioned, and it was extreamly vauge." I thought it was interesting because it hit on almost all of the rumors we have been hearing. From the cuts to the FLE Phase 2 and FLE Phase 1 M&Gs, and the recent Frontierland rumors. I know there is nothing new in there, but it just gives a little more credance to the rumors that Burbank is backing off the Princess/Pixie bandwagon.

The Exhibition, and the events surrounding it, from the original company leak on wdwmagic (it had to be a company leak, either official or from a party in the company with an axe to grind for Jay), to the theatrical Jay-fest of the D23 FLE unveiling, represented everything that was wrong with the management of the Disney Parks. The FLE, as we have come to discuss and know, with its focus on unoriginal, synergized properties, pandering to an extremely narrow (while lucrative) demographic, 300 million dollar price tag for a project that includes only a single new ride attraction, its “really a D but let’s sell it as an E” ticket headliner, potential capacity nightmare, and overall emphasis on style over substance, epitomizes to me all that was fail about the Rasulo vision of the Disney Parks brand. But could it all have been a major blessing in disguise? IF, and it’s a big if, but IF the new Parks leadership has the common sense to be discussing the failures of the FLE, and contemplating a retooling of the idea, to the extent of possibly axing a majority of what was originally presented to the public and Disney’s most die-hard fans, (let’s be honest, that would take major stones by the new leadership) could in my mind signal a major turning point, for the positive, in the direction of Parks, especially WDW. Not only that, but could the Exhibition, if thrown out as Jim says without board approval, been Jay’s one-way ticket out of not only the Parks, but also the Presidency he coveted so much? If so, it was a double blessing in disguise. So I say to Tom: If you’re talking about it – for the love of Walt, do what’s right by the park, the company, the legacy and the fans, and have the courage to follow through and fix this mess. It won’t go unnoticed.

My thought is that people may be reading a little too much into the poster's "giving away the candy store" comment. While I agree that the princesses may be getting a temporary home until their future locations are finisned, I kinda think the "candy store" line was likely just a figure of speech. He mostly stated it would be in a location that a lot of people would not be happy about. I'm not sure the confectionary fits that bill.

Did they announce this because it was Rasulo doing the announcing, he'd be gone in a few months, and it might have helped create some dissonance that would lead to his "switch" with Staggs? After all.... He did "loose" the position. Great post, though.

As stupid as Disney is, even I don;t see them doing that.

The Fantasyland Expansion had been approved by all necessary authorities. No project is publicly announced until it has been signed off by the ExCom for WDP&R and if necessary any higher authority such as the Board of Directors.

However all projects change between formal approval and handover and they don't need to be sent back to various officials for alteration. The board rarely weighs in on specifics to a project - they are there to make sure that due process has been followed and that there is demand for any capex. I can't recall any project in the past decade being sent back for formal approval. Not one.
