Disney Studios Orlando, Disney Studios Florida or Disney Studios USA makes more sense than this name. A lame name for what is right now the lamest park at WDW.

The name to me is just ... blah. Not as bad as Disney's California Adventure, which has to go down as the worst Disney name for a theme park and one of the worst names in the industry period, but close. Disney's Hollywood Studios ... it's just blah. It's not evocative of what the park is all about ... at least now. I haven't had a chance to speak with anyone at Disney yet, although I've shot a few messages out. But the only thing I can think of that pushed them into this from Disney-Pixar Studios is likely that the LucasFilm properties are going to have a much more prominent role (you might say, a starring one!) in the years ahead and they didn't want to piss George off by totally branding it Disney ... I dunno. I think if that's the direction they were headed then simply the Disney Studios would have been fine. The park has strayed far from its 'Hollywood that never was and always will be' roots when opened in 1989 ... unless they're planning on really going back to that (maybe using some of the new DCA concepts or older Bob Weis ones?) and placemaking to the hilt I just don't get it. There's nothing Hollywood about a giant tacky hat ... or much of what's gone in there the past decade.

I really hope that with this change they could move the hat, as I have been a fan of it's design but not it's location. Hell, if it were at the other end of the street by the entrance, or in front of the security tent (with a "Last Chance" type shop). The best spot for the hat would be on the path to the Fantasmic theater, as it fits thematically and has nothing to clash with there. There is enough space in between Tower of Terror and the Fantasmic theater that they could fit at least one more ride in over there. If they did so, they would probably open that path for daytime use, so the hat at the end could be a useful teaser for the show...

The funny thing I back around Star Wars Weekends I heard that this was the possible name, so I went home to see if it had been registered yet. It hadn't. I thought about registering it then, but I would probably just have to give it up if they requested anyway. Some random guy owns DisneyPixarStudios.com -John www.thedisneyblog.com

Of course, they are IN "Disney" the whole time, and Walt Disney World refers to the entire property. But only nerds like us and lawyers pay attention to stuff like that. People are going to call it "MGM". Even though MGM is an office building on the west coast. If it is still there. It's not as bad as when clueless Americans call all Spanish-speaking people "Mexicans". SFH "No MGM in my Chinese food, please."

It complements the theming of Hollywood Blvd. But what does the MK castle at the end of the street have to do with turn-of-the-century America?

I am merely pointing out an opportunity to improve things. I would not even begin to suggest that the castles should be moved or rethemed. Using your argument, why try to have any kind of consistency at all in themeing? Put a wooden fortress in Tomorrowland? Why not? There is a castle at the end of Main Street.
