When that happens, either the Fastpass ride, the ride the person is standing in line while waiting for the Fastpass time, or both will have a longer line. This means that lines overall go up. I think in order for the Fastpass virtual queue to really act like a real queue, it needs to be that you can only be in one line at a time. That means that when you get a fastpass, you are not allowed to go into any other ride line until your time comes. I think this approach will make Fastpass less like a way to cut the lines, but rather a way to wait your turn in comfort This would also fulfill Disney’s original idea of getting people to spend more time shopping.

That wouldn't work unless FP's were rationed. There are times when you end up getting a FP time that is many hours into the future. Not only that, how would Disney monitor your movements while you're holding a FP? If you hopped into another queue while waiting for your FP time to come up, how would they prevent you from riding within that window?

However, having said that, I am just lucky enough that I never have to go to DL or WDW during the SUMMER.

Having said THAT, I cannot imagine what the standby lines reach in true wait time during say July 4th weekend.

I cannot wait over abour 40 minutes for a ride unless there is a place to sit down. I have too many young children.

I'm not so sure this is the case. Perhaps it was a desired result for the Disney company. But perhaps FP was created as a means to actually HELP us poor park goers to enjoy our visits more. I know I sure make good use of them!

Sorry, but this is just silly. Why would I go to the park and get a FP with a return time for hours later, and then stand around and do NOTHING for those hours? That would be far worse than just standing in the Standby Queue. This isn't a solution.

    Simple logic:

A park has a definite or finite number of rides.
A ride has a definite or finite number of guest turnover(servicing) per hour.

50K guests in a park with or without Fastpass is still 50K guests which need servicing.
Assuming the population of guests in a given park remain constant the only way to shorten overall waits is if a ride's capacity increases per hour or another ride is added to a park's lineup.

Unless that attraction has used all of its FastPasses for the day.

4:00pm - Big Thunder and Autopia. Both should be practically walk-on -- both have a 45 minute stand-by.

I'll assume that this statement is accurate. But so what. what is the relevance to keeping or dismantling Fastpass.

If Big Thunder and Autopia have longer waits due to Fastpass then 2 other rides(or one ride is significantly shorter, or 5 other rides slightly shorter) have lesser waits. The equation for overall or aggragate waiting is still the same.
