Originally Posted By DVC_dad Southern Accent? Well it depends... there are more than a few "southern accents" that one could have. There is what I call the proverbial Red Neck accent like say Larry the Cable Guy. There is the old school deep south accent like you heard from "Cletus or Snow Man" played by Jerry Reid in "Smokey and the Bandit." There is the lovable Appalachian accent you hear in "Steel Magnolias" when Dolly Parton played a gal named "Truvy Jones," which I would like to interject would be more from Tall Disney Guys neck of the woods...sort of. There is a the subtle southwestern even Texan accent that you hear from Tommy Lee Jones in most of his films, Labuda could confirm this I guess. So you see there are all kinds of southern accents from across the south. And it doesn't stop there. If you are born and raised in the south, (Trailsend can attest) you can sometimes HEAR where people are from, not only from state to state, but sometimes even from which part of a particular southern state. Understand? No? Well ... think of it this way... In the 90's you heard Bill Clinton enough to recall his accent. You can tell he is from Arkansas or maybe west Mississippi. But think of Charles Durning who played "Pappy O'Daniel" in the movie "Of Brother Where Art Thou" and you get more of a deep southern Mississippi Delta accent. Oh well, I can't really explain it, but it would be like people raised in Queens knowing someone was from Jersey I guess. Mine, (I would like to think) would sound somewhat like an Old School Georgia accent like say the character "Boolie," (played by Dan Aykroyd) in the movie "Driving Miss Daisy." You have to be careful when hearing southern accents in movies...they are typically some of the most terrible and fake accents. The absolute worst southern accents were those in the TV series, "In the Heat of the Night." Carroll O'Connor's accent was fine, but the other 90% of the cast really struggled with that aspect of the show. So after all is said and done, Yes, I have a southern accent, but...
