When they do, let's hope you all have the ability to deal with them. There are many conspiracies taking place all over the world. To NOT believe in conspiracies is naive and you all owe it to yourselves to dig a little deeper and find out what is Truth."

It's interesting that's the scenario you put out there.

Yeah, we have lots of fun out here in the world of reality. Stop by and visit sometime. Leave your gun at home.

This is an exceptional article. While its focus is on forgiveness and reparative justice, it also touches briefly on the issue of guns.

The fact is, guns around the house can turn a moment of rage and confusion into a tragedy. In this particular case, an emotional guy shot his girlfriend (with a shotgun, not a rifle) in a highly charged, heated fight. He had no prior criminal record. The fact is, like it or not, if the gun hadn't been in the house, this girl would still be alive.

The NRA and gun defenders love to talk about "the bad guys" like we're in some western. The truth is, most gun violence is a spur of the moment second of uncontrolled rage. Take the gun out of the equation and a lot more people would be alive today.

But gun owners and the NRA want us to somehow think the answer is more guns....

I come from a family with a history that goes back a long way in this country.
I own a gun that came across the plains in a covered wagon. I own a gun that my dad hunted with during the depression to help feed hungry families. I also own a gun exactly like the one he carried in World War two, a Colt pistol, God forbid!
But I do not own any assault weapons, and I support legislation to ban them. I also support strict background checks and the training and licensing of all gun owners.
I resent being classified as some nutcase fanatic just because I own a few guns.
The problem is there are simply too many guns, and any idiot can own one.

Can we please get past everyone thinking they're somehow entitled to be "resentful" or offended anytime someone says anything they don't like?

Look, nothing personal here, I just wanted to illustrate another point of view.

Martin Luther King changed our country because of free speech.

Apartheid ended because of free speech.

Over and over again in the last 100 years we see nation after nation falling because the people just said, 'You know, this isn't working out for us. We're not going to play your game any more."

And in those places where freedom was won with guns it tended to be because the new boss wanted to replace the old boss, and the people were still oppressed under the new regime as they were under the old one. Iran got rid of the Shah, but they installed something even worse.

When people have the right to speak freely and to assemble then no government can stand up to that for ever. It may take decades but they will eventually fall.

Guns aren't a defense against tyranny - they are just a defense against invasion.

A particularly applicable example, that. Just imagine if all those people hoarding guns DID manage to overthrow the current government. You think we've got it bad now?

OUTSTANDING insight Fred (or was it Ralph?).

Dead serious here, you should take this seed of a brilliant notion and compose an article out of it, and submit it to media sources.

    Really.
