Sadly, due to polical correctness I believe, DL quite selling guns in frontierland. Those were my sons' favorite things to. (Lost forever to the above mentioned fire.)
One can, however, buy laser guns in Tomorrowland. Go figure.

Definitely get pictures of lil one at the park. I normally avoid the park photogs when they ask for a photo of me at the castle or at the entrance or wherever, but I have at least one of me and my family there from when lil Thunder was small.

I collect DL souvenirs as a hobby, my favorite items are actual items from my childhood, [a 1964 wall map, postcard booklet, a hat with a long feather and name embroidered, and a pennant] I even buy other peoples old pictures of Disneyland, I love anything with the Disneyland logo [the recently revived my favorite logo from 1961] There is one thing I would pay $$$$$$ for but I doubt I will ever find it, that one thing would be a picture of ME from my early visits to Disneyland. I have found old movies of my dad there in the late fifties, but not none of me.

So, don't do what my parents did and skip pictures. Get a a nice 8" X 10" and maybe even frame it in a nice Disneyland frame.

I also like the badge of honor idea. I'd also go for anything with dates or reminders of the year and era. Golden Ears with name embroidered, Maybe it wont be worn, but it might be cherished someday.
