    EXACTLY!

They don't have to be draconian about the odd flash. It is the people that do it repeatedly to the point that they ruin it for others. If Disney doesn't stop others join in thinking it is OK.

If they physically take the camera away from the customer and delete the photos without consent, security is breaking the law.

However, many customers would probably allow the photos deleted out of ignorance or to avoid being ejected from the park.

Completely agree, I don't want to see anyone drawn and quartered... well maybe a couple, but the problem is as more people do it, even more people will join in.
I can think of more than a few places I no longer go because the behavior is something I no longer want to deal with. It takes only a few bad apples... Disney is not as easily replaceable, but I can't imagine it won't have an effect.
Some people need to be told what is expected, though I wish the rest of us could be paid for our efforts...

And if you think that Vatican incident can't happen in America - last summer in DC, we were walking towards the Lincoln Memorial and snapped a couple photos down a side street. Guards told us to delete the photos or they'd seize the camera and we might go to jail. DD had to show them all the photos on the camera, and her deleting them. So maybe Disney can't get away with this, but our government can (it was some kind of Navy base or something).

I'm sorry it's ruined the place for you. :-(

Public photography can be prohibited by certain laws. In general, laws forbid photography of certain government facilities, usually military installations. There are also some limitations on filming nuclear facilities. Also, photography can be prohibited by local laws. You cannot shoot photography on bridges in New York or something. It's insane, but the law is on the books.

These things do happen all the time, whether it's legal or not.

Here's an example of a guy who went to a public meeting being held in a publicly-funded gym and tried to videotape it. The members of this organization went ballistic and assaulted him.

    <a href="http://carlosmiller.com/2010/06/22/overly-aggressive-senior-citizens-attack-videographer-in-public-meeting/" target="_blank">http://carlosmiller.com/2010/0...meeting/</a>

It's like they think the camera is a weapon or something.

Did they get their photos deleted or did they voluntarily delete their photos in order to remain on the property?

YOU CAN ask someone to delete their photos. If they don't, you can ask them to leave. If they don't, the crime is trespassing. The photography remains legal.

YOU CANNOT make someone delete their photos. You cannot take their camera away. That is theft. You cannot destroy their property, which is their photos.

However, do you really think it's right to prohibit photography in a publicly funded museum or other facility (I don't know if all of the museums you mentioned are public or privately funded)?

As another example, do you think it's right to prohibit photography in a publicly funded facility such as a train station?

    RFLOL. That is funny!

Ok so back to the illegal picture taking,. It’s not illegal to take a photo on a dark ride-nether less it RUINS the ambience for other park guests. I think that if a park guests doe take a photo with a flash on a dark ride that the camera should be taken away! My HM ride last month was ruined for that day because some nerd with a fancy camera kept taking photos every 5 sec. and his flash bulb was so unbelievably bright! And the ride was stopped and the announcement for no flash came on etc, but they still continued to do it through out the ride.
