    "ridiculous" spelled "rediculous"

I know it looks funny with the two "i"s, but is correct.

(psst...GrumpysWife...It's grammar --with an "a" near the end instead of the "e").

(And fyi, I *totally* throw grammar/spelling out the window on LP. Having to think about it in hyperspeed at work all day and then coming on LP and *not* thinking about it at all is part of what helps me relax and part of what I find charming about the internet. LOL. I imagine I've been annoying a WHOLE lot of people for a while now! LOL. Oops!)

    For example:

-- I believe, generally, that improper usage of grammer and incorrect spelling belies a lack of intelligence.

    vs.

-- At least a couple of my favorite LP'ers, who I know well and find VERY intelligent, routinely violate some of the most simple grammer and spelling rules.

How do I reconcile that contradiction? I don't. (Except maybe by being not so quick to make a judgement about the intelligence of the next English-language rule-violator I meet.) The violations that my friends commit continue to grate on my nerves -- when others commit them. I continue to "accept" the violations when my friends do them.

Whatever. Doesn't make sense. But that's how it is.

    Hmmmmmm...

Could have something to do with the fact that I realize that I incorrectly use "there's" instead "there are" a lot. Or that I have to remember what Tiggirl taught me every time I try to spell "separate": "There's 'a rat' in 'separate.'"

Sometimes, for whatever reason, the "right stuff" just doesn't stick with you.

Sometimes English grammar and spelling make no sense.

And sometimes you just gotta say, "Hey, wait a second! Wasn't this thread about the misunderstanding of idioms?!"
