My yearnings for nostalgia aren't for a particular attraction, although I miss the original Journey more than anything from EPCOT Center, but more for a mindset at WDI when it came to making magic. That magic came about not from shoehorning characters into every attraction, not having professional urinating contests by different Imagineers and teams in a politically charged atmosphere, not from making blander, less sophisticated (i.e. cheaper) attractions, not by going for two-minute thrill but in pushing the creative and technological envelopes. I see change on the horizon, but whether WDI can ever be what it once was is another matter.

Of course, most of them from JIYI were fired, and the wonderful art director for JIIWF sadly passed away. *sigh* <<I also don't see future websites dedicated to Honey, I Overstayed my Welcome and Relevance as an Attraction by 5-6 years when that movie gets retired.>> LOL. Done. Fini. The layoffs are coming. Outsourcing will reign supreme. WDI will never be WED again.

I say let half the staff go and outsource to all the quality ex-WDIers who were forced out of the company. The ones who believe parks like TDS, EPCOT Center and DLP are what Disney should be building instead of things like DSP (shouldn't qualify as a park), DCA and HKDL.

You could bring back 'Journey Into Imagination' exactly as it was in 1982. Rebuild it to the exact specifications that it was built back then. Dreamfinder, Figment, the big hot air balloon scene in the beginning, all the show scenes with scary words out of books, microscopes, Figment dressed as the Gorton's Fisherman, the dreamy white room, all of it. Exactly as it was in 1982, bring it all back. Drop it back into EPCOTs Future World next summer -- 2007. You know what would happen? It would get all the purists excited, Disney could market the heck out of it for the summer, and then, it would end up having the exact same popularity as the version that is currently there. A walk-on. The 'Imagination' pavilion needs a whole new re-working. There has just got to be more to the imagination than bringing back The Dreamfinder.

The Kirks will remain with Kirk Design. They can do much better under the outsourcing model with their own company. Eddie Sotto seems to be MIA, after leaving WDI for greener pastures. And like with the Kirks, I feel Eddie would be better utilized with his own firm doing consultant work. Joe Rohde? Speak to me, babe. He gets my vote as Executive Art Director for all the Disney parks. Plus a big fat promotion to Senior Vice President which is looooooooooooooooong overdue!!! John Lasseter and Pete Docter. Advisory roles only, please. Keep them based in Emeryville. Place them in some kind of "Imagineering Exchange Program" where they can "travel abroad" to Glendale, but nothing permanent. Wing Chao? Jury is still out. Tony Baxter? Well, gee... isn't it obvious? Executive Vice President for Creative Development. Which is currently held by Tom Fitzgerald. And IMHO, should not be.

He wants to remain a creative exec and hence has not been interested in any other role. He is currently pursuing projects other than DAK. Eric Jacobson is the E-VP responsible for the US parks.
