Also, when it comes to the guys at the top (Eisner and now Iger and even weasel Jay) you have to understand that they aren't ever prone to surprise visits. They are all choreographed like Broadway productions, so that they never get a true view of anything. From their PR handlers to being put in perfect press situations (be it with real media or simply Cast Communications a la Eyes and Ears or Cast TV) ... it's all fake. I'm reasonably sure Bob Iger wouldn't be happy with the piss poor construction job and materials used in the TSMM queue that has resulted in walls with holes and gouges and pieces of plaster on the floor ... it's just he'll never see it. And the buses or even monorails ... if you think Willow and the Iger kids are going to be caught dead on them, you're crazy. Disney's top level execs don't see reality because there are folks whose job it is to make sure they don't. The only person in a high level position to make substanitve change (depending on how well Bolt winds up doing this weekend!) who views the parks like a real fan would be John Lasseter ... and sadly for WDW fans, he much prefers to spend his time and energies on Anaheim.

If you can fool him into believing that you are cutting costs and delivering top value, well, that's how the big bonuses and promotions are earned.

I'm just terribly afraid that the WDW we see today will be with us for many years to come.

The MK is about nostalgia. There were two changes/additions which I thought were very significant. 1) Mickey's Philharmagic is an excellent 3D film and replaced a Lion King show that had become rather stale. 2) The Pirates update was excellent. I love the Davy Jones waterfall effect and think the AA's of Captain Jack Sparrow are the most lifelike I've seen anywhere. Overall an outstanding update of a classic attraction. Disney Hollywood Studios I've really enjoyed the addition of Lights, Motors, Action. It is one of the better done special effects/stunt shows I’ve seen. Certainly an improvement over a tram ride through flats from the Golden Girls and other TV shows. Epcot Many changes here and I've enjoyed them all. Turtle Talk and the Nemo dark ride have changed the Living Seas from a ghost town into one of the liveliest Future World pavilions. I think that Mission Space is without a doubt WDW's best thrill ride. It blew me away the first time I rode and has every time since. It may not be your cup of tea, but you have to give Disney credit for developing a big $$ attraction that is unlike anything anyone else has done. I also love Soarin'... the attraction that I feel is the most fun at Disney World. Not the most exciting, thrilling, or immersive. Just the most plain old get off the thing with a great big goofy smile on your face fun! Oh, I almost forgot. THEY TOOK DOWN THE WAND!! Animal Kingdom. Here it is all about coaster additions. First came Primeval Whirl which I think is a lot of fun. Sure, it is a glorified Mad Mouse. But it is good goofy fun and certainly a whole lot better done than Mulholland Madness. The addition of Expedition Everest is absolutely outstanding from beginning to end. Just the "show building" is a remarkable achievement... certainly Disney's largest ever. The queue is one of Disney's absolute best, probably exceeded only by Indy at DL. I also think that it is the best Disney coaster ever. Rock & Roller is fun, but is nowhere near the length of EE and can't compare when it comes to setting and storytelling. So maybe an effect or two sometimes don't work (frankly, I've never noticed it myself). Big deal. You're gonna write the whole thing off because of THAT? A lot of people would add Nemo to this list but I just can't. While it is well done, I far preferred the music and excitement of Tarzan. Hotels Yeah I know. That is everything that is wrong with WDW. Whatever. I think DVC's Saratoga Springs is a great addition. It has one of the best pools on property and THE BEST spa on property. The furnishings and construction materials used are all a notch above the other DVC resorts. It is what I feel DVC resorts SHOULD BE... stand alone and not an add-on to an existing resort. I enjoy, for the first time at WDW, easy transportation via bus to any other resort at WDW. It certainly makes dining elsewhere a whole lot easier. If you would want to dine elsewhere. The Turf Club is one of WDW's better restaurants. Can you imagine? A DVC resort restaurant so popular you actually need reservations?? Overall, not too bad for 5 years in my opinion. Stale? You gotta be kidding me!! Oh, I know. I'm not sophisticated like Spirit and some of the others here. But I'll give you a little secret. There are a whole lot more folks like me that go to WDW than there are like Spirit. As long as they keep the Trippy's happy they'll do OK.

I don't pay thousands of $$$, and spend my one week of vacation time to visit attractions that are the same as I can find at The West Virginia State Fair. State Fair quality, especially West Virginia State Fair quality doesn't get my vacation $$$$s. If you accaept this as Disney quality then there are no limits. What about quarter sucking hobby horses? "Oh, I know. I'm not sophisticated like Spirit and some of the others here. But I'll give you a little secret. There are a whole lot more folks like me that go to WDW than there are like Spirit." Its not about sophistication. You are the one talkin' up the Spa. Its about expectation. And Disney is failing miserable at what I expect from Disney. And yes, the MK is stale. Tweeking Pirates to sell more DVDs isn't a plus for me. I like the advanced AAS, but I think they could better utilize the tech other than a lame commercial for a movie. As far as real plusses in the past 5 years, I would count Philharmagic, TSMM, Mission Space, Soarin' and Everest. I think some of the additions hurt Disney's rep for quality entertainment. These being everything in Chester and Hester's, MILF, and SGE. Right now, EPCOT is the least stale of he parks. Kudos to Disney for the additions and tweeks. DHS is also getting some much needed attention. And the MK is STALE beyond belief. And I will eat my hat if they don't turn their attention on the MK next. Because they KNOW MK is stale.
