Yes, it was the way people spoke at the time, and should be represented. Knowing Disney, they won't get into too much stereotype area though, as they're still holding out on Song of the South. I can't wait to see the final product, and I'll reserve my judgement until I've seen it, or at least close to release.

But Maddy's dreams are very forward-thinking... they're not about having her prince. They're more ...entrepreneurial, one might say.

Originally Posted By BlueOhanaTerror You mean stuff about Prince Harry? Well... It's awfully early, and the script, frankly, ain't that impressive. So I'm sure there's a lot of changes ahead. However, the basic story is good, and the script will doubtless get better. It's got some great characters, and a good use of the locale. I mentioned this in another thread, but don't be surprised if the Blue Bayou at Disneyland gets a slight touching up in relation to this movie.

Originally Posted By xrayvision Regarding Alicia Keyes vs Jennifer Hudson for the voice of Maddy- Disney should split up the speaking and singing voices for Maddy as great singers are not always great actors, and great actors are not always the best singers. And, you need a strong, skillful and verbally expressive actor to successfully and convincingly portray the spoken roles of an animated character. I've never seen Alicia Keyes act and Jennifer Hudson's spoken parts in Dreamgirls were somewhat unexpressive and unconvincing. But, Hudson's SINGING VOICE...OMG...YES YES YES! I'm 100% for Jennifer Hudson providing the singing talents for Maddy. Jennifer's voice is SO AMAZING and SO STRONG that it sends tingles up your spine and commands you to feel the emotions that she's feeling. Hudson is also closer in age to Maddy than Alicia Keyes. And, Hudson's recent claim to Oscar fame is sort of a Cinderella story in itself. Thus, still up-and-coming and unspoiled within the Hollywood scene, Hudson could better relate to the up-and-coming Maddy character than the older and more Hollywood saavy Alicia Keyes. Regarding the possibility of Frog Princess overlays in Disneyland, IMO changing Pooh to Frog Princess would turn NOS/Critter Country into the best themed land in DL in regards to maintaining it's theme and providing differentiated offerings of attractions that can appeal to all ages. Change Pooh to Frog Pricess (if the movie is successful) AND leave Blue Bayou alone.

I think you'll be quite pleased. The human characters are very much archetypes of the classic fairy tale, even though it takes place in America. Like I said, not crazy about the script in its current form - the dialogue could be much sharper - but it WILL get better. They have a lot of time, and these things always get better when they're in the hands of competent helmsmen. And they don't get much better than FROG's directors.
