I really like the idea of visiting with either ilvdland or the iamsally's, but I am also intrigued with the Washington DC idea.

Most everyone I've talked to told me that if we do Tennessee, to avoid Graceland like the plague, so not sure about that any more.

I'm so torn right now. San Fran would be way cheaper allowing funds for a second vacation later in the year. But the road trip that friendofdd mentioned would be a wonderful opportunity for PB to put her photo skills to the test.

I have to think about this a little more. Time's a ticking, too!

Washington D.C. has SOOO much to see and do.

<<<very into baseball and I've thought about doing the very same thing! Don't miss Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

If you go to DC, take some time to drive north and see Longwood Gardens in PA. If you like science museums, the Franklin Institute is a must see with wrap around (sides and almost over your head) Tuttleman Omniverse Theatre, Planetarium, and a fun multiple stories high bike ride inside the amphitheater. Philly has tons of stuff to do!

NYC also has a holographic museum - off the beaten path and lots of fun. Also has a Magic dinner theater where you sit at a table across from a magician who does close up magic. The food stinks, but it's really fun and different.

From California I would head to New Mexico to see Carlsbad Caverns. The caves and bats are really cool. You can also go and see the aliens in Roswell.

From there, I would head to New Braunfels TX and San Antonio. Schlitterbahn is a really cool water park. You could also float the Guadelupe and visit Gruene Hall. In San Antonio, the riverwalk is nice and you can get fantastic mexican food, and don't forget the Alamo.

From there, I would head to New Orleans for great music and food. You can swing by Houston on the way and visit NASA.

From New Orleans, head to Tennesse and you can visit Nashville, Dollywood, and Memphis. I have toured Graceland twice and I loved it. Also, if you are in Memphis, you need to eat at the Rendezvous. THE BEST BBQ! You can watch the ducks walk the red carpet at the Peabody.

Head back thru Arkansas. Northern Arkansas is really pretty. You can see the Great Passion Play.

Whoa! This is similar to some of my tentative travel plans for next year... I want to travel to a home game for each team I follow - that will have me hopping down to SA for the Spurs, up to Pittsburgh for the Steelers, over to Houston for the Astros, and up to Detroit for the Red Wings. :)

Possible trips to see the Rockets and the Mets, too - my tier 2 bball and bball teams. :)

Would be kinda fun to follow the Astros for a week, though.

It is almost impossible to describe what a thrill it was (for me) to be there. There is more to do there than anywhere else I've been. With the Metro it is also one of the most user-friendly vacation destinations I've found.

But it woul be hard to spend 10 days there.

Chunks of meat swimming in various flavors of tomato sauce, whether its from Memphis, Kansas City, or Texas can be quite tasty. But it ain't barbecue.

My mouth's watering remembering helping to flip the pig over on the huge grill my uncle'd built the night before out of cinder blocks and tie bars. Clearing my sinuses by sniffing the vinegar based sauce my grandfather would baste on with a rag tied onto the end of a big stick. Pulling that crispy pork off. Crunchy on top and succulent underneath. That was barbecue.
