ilovemickey, my dad was also a mechanic for many years as a young man so I totally know what you mean- whatever he says is the gospel as far as I'm concerned :).

Although, as a pp stated, some of those one-horse towns preceeding the GV will charge quite alot as well. For years we've stopped just short of the Gravevine (uh, ButtonWillow?) to fill up.

In April, my cousin and I made it on one tank from NorCal- but that meant filling up in Anaheim for the trip back-not really the best strategy once I thought about it later;)

Anyways don't stress & have an awesome trip doombuggy! You could pick me up on the way! ; )

If you miss Button Willow, heading south, don't pull off at the next exit. The prices there are WAY high. Wait until Laval Road.

Anaheim gas prices are a lot cheaper than here in the Bay Area, so I always fill up before leaving, too.

I say it's ButtonWillow, but I've had family argue that it's technically not. As long as there a Starbucks near the gas station, I'm good:).

Last time I went (July 29-Aug 1) I started in Vancouver, WA, bought gas in Medford and Stockton. That's it. I refilled in Anaheim before I left for home and bought again in Stockton and Medford. They were the cheapest places around, and the Arco in Anaheim on Harbor was 2.79 on Aug. 1.

You must get great gas mileage - it's over 400 miles from Stockton to Disneyland.

The station in Anaheim has dropped another 15 cents or so since then, so it's probably right around to slightly less than what you're paying at Safeway.

As for it not working South of Stockton, Mrs ElderP is right. It's based on volunteer entry and nobody must've entered any prices in that stretch of freeway.

I live 45 minutes west of Stockon - about mid-way between Stockton and San Francisco. It's 397 miles driveway to driveway when I go to DLR.
