But let's say this person has 2 children, or is active in sports, or pulls a trailer, under load the v6 may actually get better mileage. I'd hate to think of how the Sienna would be if we hooked the trailer up to it instead of the Denali XL. Something tells me you'd be eating through the life of the Sienna very quickly. That said when justthe driver 04 Sienna gets slightly better mileage then the beater 98 Windstar my parents keep (It was paid for long ago, worth nothing now so why sell?), however that is on premium gas. As well the Sienna seems to lose more power under load with 6 people and shopping bags inside, that said the Windstar seems to do about the same with a load or without. As well if you prefer to "drive" in the BMW sense over "getting there" your mileage will suffer. As well it's not just the V8's or trucks (many of which are used, could you imagine a landscaper using a Yaris?), but those high powered 4 cyl turbos that encourage hard driving that suck gas as well. Hybrids are one way of looking at it, but a more viable way would be to do what Europe does and buy your cars (small, large, truck, SUV) with diesel engines. These have the added benefit of loads "o" torque.
