I think the only animal that is banned and exterminated from Florida is the rare Cornhusker and rightfully so!

Gators are not everywhere, but the thing is you never know where they WILL be. Because of that I think the most prudent action is to stay away from bodies of water when you are in Florida. (Spoken by someone who went on the swamp trail at Fort Wilderness which was probably asking for it.)

Disney has been there 30+ years and I know of no gator attack on property.

Originally Posted By RoadTrip I'm not freaked out by the gators... I would have never walked the swamp trail if I was. But they ARE present in the waterways at WDW and for whatever reason gators in FL have been unusually aggressive this spring. It just makes sense to stay away from the shoreline if you want to minimize the change or running into a gator. I once asked a CM what they did with gators they found on property. He didn't say "Oh, we don't have gators on property". He said "We just leave them alone if they aren't causing any trouble. If we get an aggressive one we move them off property."

We stayed at CBR last February. Every night we stood just outside the entrance by the Pepper Market by the water's edge (with a big cement drop off and wrought-iron railing) and watched, and there was an alligator that came over there. Some other guests were throwing crackers in and he'd eat them, I guess it happens enough to make a pattern for him. I have pictures that SORT of show him-he looked about 4 feet. Most of his body was underwater, just his head out, but the flash would light him up pretty good to the eye, not as good in the picture. But he was definately there! We looked for him every time we walked by there, but only saw him at night, never in the day. We saw him 3 or maybe 4 different nights.

We stayed at Coronado Springs, that's where we saw the alligator. So I was rude AND wrong. And yes, feeding the alligator was not the smartest thing, I thought. There was no way he could get up to where we were in that location, but still!
