    I do seem to remember reading alot about the fact it was likely his last term though. I actually kind of like some things he has to say ( and saw him speak - did a nice job at a local university) - but I don't think he'll be the nominee when the dust settles...the real problem is I don't see anyone emerging and that concerns me. Huckabee anyone ?

    As for the relative hold that "base" or "fringe" (if you prefer) groups have on their respective party nominees, no serious GOP contender has been able to be pro-choice or pro-gay for decades now. Guiliani may break that pattern, but we'll see how many votes he gets down south when push comes to shove. It's worth remembering that not a single vote has been cast yet.
