I seem to remember a tour guide saying that they forgot to account for the divider between carpet and tile when they manufactured it the first time, so the design never quite lined up the way it was supposed to.

Maybe they wanted it installed before christmas, but logistically wouldn't it have made more sense to install it in Sept/Nov, as i'd imagine it would be a little less harried at that time of year. Even if the temporary carpet was there for 10 months, be happy that it's finally here. Yes at a deluxe hotel we expect more, but how many casual vacationers would notice? Ok maybe a few given how pretty the rest of the hotel is. Let's hope that this carpet looks pretty for years to come, and that when they turn the lights on the tree, the "lights" won't be orange.
