Beck is actually more a disciple of Cleon Skousen, a now-deceased extreme right-wing Mormon who was actually denounced by LDS leaders for his extremist views, than he is the LDS Church. Skousen wrote an absurd tract called the 5,000 Year Leap about the founding of the U.S. that is more historical fiction than actual history. It was little-known until Beck preached it on his show and it was brought out of obscurity.

He's tired of the political process, as is everyone. But my guess is he's sincere in his beliefs promoting limited government, restoring faith in American, etc. I don't like all of his rants, and I don't agree with everything he says, but I don't think he's a crazy person. I think he's brilliant in a lot of ways.
