An unintended consequence is now a lot of Republicans in the House fear a primary challenger more than a Democratic challenger in the general election. And primary voters tend to be more partisan, so you have a whole slew of Congressmen who will quite literally take insane positions just to look ultra-conservative to their conservative constituents.

Basically, the computer establishes the districts based on population. Every district has the same number of constituents. It completely removes politics from the equation.
