I can sort of see Clints' point, although if you look at things overall golf is much MORE a sport than some of the so-called olympic sports such as figure skating (sorry, this is a form of DANCE, not a sport), curling (weird kinda shuffleboard...no athleticism required that I can see), and syncronized swimming (again, a form of dance, or some kinda choreography anyway). Anyone ever hear the George Carlin take on sports? It's pretty funny. When it comes down to it, a sport is whatever people want to consider a somewhat athletic (in some cases, like bowling), competetive event. I suppose you could point to official "sports" as something that requires speed, particularly running. But even there, baseball pitchers don't generally have to run (occasionally they do). Put it this way, Clint, if it's not a sport, then how would you catagorize it? I will give you one thing, not all great golfers have to be in super tip-top "athelete" condition. Having said that though, Tiger surely IS a great athelete.

I suppose you could also define a "sport" as a sort of game where one team (or person) must score more points than another. Referees are there to keep the game fair, but not to award points per se. In that case, golf AND bowling would qualify, but figure skating and drum corps would not. But even there, you've got your grey areas. Is olympic diving a "sport"? Clearly it is athletic. Though you still need the judges to dole out the scores (they have certain criteria, of course, but some of it does end up being subjective). I think this thread could be better written as "what constitutes sports".

Meanwhile, huge multi-million dollar homes sit empty for all but a few weeks of the year. Once pristine areas have been destroyed, and the groundwater has taken a huge hit. All of this, so a bunch of rich, soft, pink men can drive up in their Hummers, bop their balls around, and congratulate themselves on being masters of the universe.
