    Good luck tomorrow DVC_dad!

I did "hire out" the new roof, exterior painting, and addition of a 12'x28' second story deck though. Those kinds of projects are way beyond my capabilities. My neighbor is trying to convince me to tile my entry hall by myself, bit I'm still thinkin' on that one.
    How did you play today?

At the beginning of the round, but after he had hacked up the practice range and stunk up the practice putting green we headed for the first tee. He exits the cart and says in a relaxed, friendly way, "How bout we play for a hundred bucks?"

I look up at him stunned. It's not so much the amount, as people play for that and 1,000 times that much all the time. But I was shocked because I did't expect it at all. He had been talking (leading up to the outing the previous 2 weeks) at how he would certainly stink up the course. He said that he had not played in over a year, and that he was a 20 handicapper.

Well...judging from what THAT usually means is he is headed for a 120 score.

    Well........

I felt compelled to agree out of courtesy and off we went.

He hit his first drive about 190 down the left into the light rough but safe.

I stroked a booming 270 or so down the pipe, looking great. I am thinking, "Okay buster, you wanted to play for money, I'll take yours."

That was the last time I had such thoughts.

    ME:
    Front 9 - 46
    Back 9 - 48
    Total - 94

    HIM:
    Front 9 - 41
    Back 9 - 42
    Total - 83

You know what made the difference? His putting. It was a clinic.

Anyway I felt great about my game. I was very consistant, long with my drives, stayed out of sand/water/woods. Mid game good, hit a couple of shots that'll get me back out there again soon. I need to work on my putting...bad.

And this gay HAD to have played more than once in the last year...especially if he is a 20.

This is when the red flags go up -- question DVCdad - do you shoot pool ? I used to - and a lot. Never play with someone who seems anxious to give their money away, there are very few philanthropic people betting on golf or pool --LOL !!

Although I am glad you shot well also -- bad putting and 94, you're game really coming around

Lesson learned, glad it wasn't MORE than the hundred!

Yeah, well I didn't exactly putt badly for ME, but the other guy just made "more than a few" very long ONE-PUTTS and that hurts. I just couldn't do that. I am playing MUCH MUCH better. I have had 4 lessons now and have poured hours into practice. I rarely play, I often practice. I have begun working ONLY on the short game and now am going to work on putting with a great deal of vigor!

I have noticed that lately I am having a lot of pain and some numbness in my right hand, dropping dishes, weakened grip...I may HAVE to drag myself off to the doctor about it. *gasp* I just don't want to do that.

Specifically, it feels like if you hit your club on the ground or something and zing your right hand...but it feels like that a lot no matter if I am playing golf or just driving in the car.

had that once a long long time ago when I was bowling a lot - it was the nerve right at the base of the inside of my right thumb - basically it was rest that cured it -- so maybe nothing to worry about...

A good putter can salvage a bad short game or compensate for length off the tee...it is a good place to put your time.

On a par 4 50% of your strokes are on the green -- in theory it's half the game score wise.

but you're right in that it is a feel, as much as being a technician. This is why on certain days guys drain everything, and on other days there is a lid on the cup.

I am playing tomorrow AM. I am taking my brother in law out for 18. He has been hounding me for weeks, so off we go.

I can't wait. I have tried to get him to come over to the practice range, but no thanks. I know he isn't practicing anywhere else.

We should have a great time. I expect to beat him handedly. But its not about winning, its about relaxing with a friend.

    Yeah....riiiiiight. ;)

His friend shot a fairly honest 120.

    I shot a strict rules 105.

I felt real good about that as it was 38 and wind chill 33 for the front nine, and only ever got to 46 on the back.

The friend wanted to play for money, but no way. I'll never do that again come heck or high water.

It's hard to play golf with four layers on crap on one's body.

One reason you should never consider a move north - my clubs are basically 'retired' for the season, unless I get to take a trip somewhere warm. But then you play after not having played in weeks / months - it's a no win here....

We are in the midst of the rainiest November on record. They are building a new golf course(designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr.)about a mile from my house and the hydroseeding was completed last month. The torrential rains came last week and washed away the practice range, so they have to re-seed in the spring. It will be a beautiful course, though. Kind of Pebble Beach-ish looking, with the beautiful panoramic views of the water.

I shot a 96. An HONEST 96. One undershirt, one thin polo golf shirt, one thin cotton sweater vest, a cordoroy hat, and some standard Dockers.

    It was wonderful!
