    Has anyone read this book?
I placed a hold on it to check it out.
Just wondering if anyone has read it and if it's worth reading.
I guess any book about Disney is worth reading.

It's a good "coffee table" book.

The first two thirds of the book is very interesting. Unfortunately the rest is like reading a High School report (sorry to anyone who might know the author)>>

amazedncal2, I do know the author and have for over 35 years. He has a true passion for Disneyland and this was his first book. From what I understand, he is
currently writing an addendum and I'm sure he would be open to some constructive criticism. I never stayed at the DLH when I was young and as such this book was not a priority to me and may not be to others like me but for many others who did this might well be the only book out there on the subject. Your suggestions and letting him know what you'd like to see in the book will only help him to make it better. He wrote this book to fill a void, not make a fortune.

Uh...maybe you should go to Amazon.com and read the blurb on this book. It sounds very similar to an extremely Disney-negative book called "Disney: The Mouse Betrayed"; I read THAT book (which was about WDW), and I wish I hadn't. Huge downer. :(

As Disneycootergal said, I would stay away from that book. There are a number of thest type of anti-Disney books out there by pseudo intellectuals/elitists, ultra left wing/communist (one book started by stating they were communists). Some of these very anti-Disney books have names that sound innocent enough.

I agree that the top two are "DL, the Inside Story" and "Nickle Tour." I would also give a very strong vote for Walt Disney's Railroad Story. The "Now and Forever book is also pretty good for what it is.

Mousetails I think it worth getting. It tells the good and bad but is certainly not negative and for the most part positive.

E-Ticket Magazine is also wonderful. Persistance of Vision is out of print but it had a number of very thick magazines issues on the park (each issue was almost a book). Van Arsdal's Frances "A Window on Mainstreet" is another classic out of print (small paperback) book.

A great resource for finding books on Disney is:
    <a href="http://www.pizarro.net/didier/" target="_blank">http://www.pizarro.net/didier/</a>
This site lists just about every book every written on Disney, including Disneyland. It has many books no longer in print as well as letting you know what will soon be out. It usually will give you a short description of the book.

But yes, you are right I read the reviews and it was all anti-Disney. <professor Giroux (Channel Surfing) charges that Disney is in fact a powerful corporation whose ideology--largely predicated on getting the consumer to buy Disney products--is far from innocent.>

I will be skipping that book.. I enjoy my retail therapy of consuming Disney products! Professor Giroux would have a coronary if he stepped foot in my house.
I'm sure he would especially love my sons' "Cars" movie themed bedrooms.

I wouldn't call the author of "Disney: The Mouse Betrayed" an ultra-left-wing elitist/intellectual by any stretch of the imagination. If anything, his main argument is that Disney's gotten too liberal and Uncle Walt, a committed Republican, wouldn't be happy with today's Company. Right-wing or left-wing, it's worth skipping.
