Have no idea truly how close they came since 9/11 halted so much.

Disney actually had just done a giant transport study where monorail expansion was discussed in a non-fanboi format for instance. ... Once 9/11 hit you might as well have shredded that.<<<

It would not surprise me, on both accounts.

But with GMR, I honestly don't see them doing it. Like with SSE and Time Racers.

Sure, it was thought of...but even Disney knows not to rip out the ride in the weenie* of the park.

My favorite part of the ride (and I really do enjoy this part) is the film montage at the end. For some reason, clips of old films stir far more emotions than robot re-hashes of the same thing.

Really? Those are your rhetorical questions for me?

Maybe you can just explain the concept behind 'The Great Movie Ride' to me, the unwashed and uncreative.

For the longest time, I would placed MK above TPFKaTD-MGMS based more on its history and a few great attractions ... but at least Studios Ops knows what they're doing (well, except for the godawful show quality of Fantasmic and having those 11/09 guidemaps in Tower Gifts in May!) and now I'd place them on about the same level.

But I guess nostalgia even works on this Spirit to some degree as I've never visited WDW without spending at least a few hours at MK. I have had trips of a week or longer when I didn't set foot in the Studios, even with my AP, and didn't miss a thing.

They wanted to do Time Racers. Badly.

They couldn't. They had no choice because you couldn't put that type of thrill ride in that structure ... that's not an Internet/urban/fanboi/CM myth like say Horizons needing to be demolished because it was about to collapse.

    Jokes? Moi?!?!

Weenies and Disney and Imagineers and Fanbois ... and you make up your own jokes since this is just way too easy.

But DHS just feels much more "alive" than the other Disney park and I really like that. Streetmosphere, "Mulch, Sweat, and Shears", Block Party Bash(the one day parade I can actually stand), and three or four of my top 10 in WDW.

Plus, like Epcot I don't feel like I'm being beat over the head with Disney synergy.

Like Spirit mentioned, it was a mad rush to beat Universal Studios Florida.

When it opened, there were so many odd things that I noticed.

First, it was way too small. People were there opening weekend, rushed through Hollywood Blvd. to get to the rest of the park, and found out that there was no 'there' there.

First, Hollywood Blvd. -- it's designed like Main Street U.S.A., but when you breezed past the stores and things (like we've learned to do on Main Street) to catch it later, the attitude was like 'no, no, no! -- this is an attraction -- see the Streetmosphere characters? They're entertaining you!'

I loved the Streetmosphere characters, Sid Cahuenga was great fun -- I knew many of them personally -- but thought they got a bit of a raw deal.

"The Great Movie Ride" was the big, flashy, AA attraction and I've already voiced my feelings about it. It rather missed the mark in my opinion.

And the Tram Tour? Are you kidding me? The only reason Universal Studios Hollywood started with a tram tour is to get people through all the acres and acres of backlot sets and actual working studio soundstages there in Universal.

So at Disney-MGM Studios -- there's nothing to really tour through, since they had only filmed what, an episode of MMC and Siskel & Ebert -- so you cruise around on this tram -- looking at rotting sets from 'The Rocketeer' and 'Honey I Shrunk the Kids' (that weren't even filmed in Florida) so that you can go through Catastrophe Canyon -- which is....a demonstration of movie magic or something? I don't know really.

The 'Backlot Tour' was neat, with some of the 'how they make movies' sequences. Cheesy, but fun.

The Indiana Jones stunt show. Cool, but with tedious set changes, and directors, camera operators and stunt people who aren't really directors, camera operators and stunt people.

Superstar Television was a pretty well done show -- fun audience participation.

But, heck what else was there? Star Tours would open later...The animation studio walk-through was pretty cool.

The 50s Prime Time Cafe was and is a winner right out of the gates.

Flash forward to 2010 -- and you now have some additional things like 'Tower of Terror' Rock'n'Roller Coaster' 'Star Tours' 'American Idol' 'Toy Story Mania'

But, man, people complained about the opening of 'Disney's California Adventure' -- I thought 'Man, were any of you at the opening of Disney-MGM Studios? -- Guests were really pissed!'

Best park in WDW? To each his own of course, but for me -- not by a mile.

To some degree, I believe that, and I do think they would have wanted to...to some other degree, I honestly think that they wouldn't have ripped out the Omni to do it.

Sure, they did it to Horizons, but that wasn't EPCOT's Icon, or it's "premier" attraction.

This is me, on EPCOT. I try pretty hard to stop thinking when I am there, so I can just enjoy the park without a little evil voice in my ear saying "Horizons used to sit here" when I am on M:S, or when I am riding SSE and the voice says "Miss Irons!?"

    LOL
